Fielding High School Spartans snapped a three-game slide by defeating the Soda Springs Cardinals 32 to 50 on their floor last Saturday. Douglas Price led Fielding with 17 points and Ronnie Peterson added 14 as the team outscored Soda Springs from the field and at the free throw line.

State Senator A. M. Derr of Clark Fork Bonner county a five term Idaho legislator announced last week his bid for the 1958 Democratic nomination for governor. He is the first to announce while incumbent Governor Robert E Smylie plans to seek re election as term expires this year.
Funeral services were conducted in the Garden City Ward chapel for Kenneth Jay Pugmire 16 month old son of Mr and Mrs Kenneth P Pugmire who died December 30 in Vallejo California The service included prayers hymns and sermons with pallbearers named and survivors listed including grandparents and great grandparents in Garden City and Grants New Mexico Leslie Pugmire and family note credited.
The National Wildlife Federation announces Wildlife Week observance March 16 to 22 with a theme on protecting public lands from erosion. Idaho Wildlife Federation will name state chairmen later and local clubs coordinate programs for schools and youth groups. Contact Idaho Fish and Game for information.
The group sponsoring a cancer control program invites the public to Montpelier High School auditorium on Monday night January 13 for a special screening and discussion.
Mr and Mrs Athay with daughter Marlys and son Robert travel from Paris to Los Angeles and on to Auckland. They plan to join a new L D S college in Hamilton, New Zealand, opening in February. The family reports the trip is the most beautiful they have seen.

Idaho is named a Big Ten Department for 1958 for strong membership. Paris Post No 84 Commander Preston Thomas reports Idaho signed up 8 170 members for 1968 by December 81, beating end of 1967 goals by 170 and marking three straight years in the top 10. Paris Post membership stands at 55, 165 above quota, as it urges eligible veterans to join.
A. B. Hulme reports ongoing controversy over locating an elementary school in Montpelier. Patrons prefer the current Central school site, while others argue for two smaller schools. A survey shows pupil distribution around Fourth to Eighth streets and Clay Washington streets with 251 pupils in the area, 48 north of Clay, 111 between Clay and Washington, and 92 south of Washington. Farewell testimonial for Elder Dennis J. Crossley held January 12 in the St. Charles Ward chapel. He has accepted a call to the Southern Far East mission, is the son of Mr and Mrs Riley Crossley, and plans to depart January 28 from San Francisco for Hong Kong after entering the mission home January 20.
Idaho farmers and business people face the first federal tax deadline next Wednesday. January 15 marks the due date for farmers estimates and payments, with full returns due by April 15. those not paying all income tax may also have deadlines for professionals and other filers.

Max Pugmire eight to Be Bear Lake Memorial hospital after being struck by a Logan driver on U S Highway 89 in St Charles. Eldon Mattson accompanied him as they crossed and did not see oncoming traffic. State Patrolman Mark Wilson investigated the accident.
