Fielding's basketball squad edged Soda Springs 36 35 in a tense finish after trailing by a point late in the game. Porter hit a late basket to seal a 36 35 victory as Skousen leads the squad in his first year. The team earned praise for effort and teamwork among a strong statewide season effort.
Pvt. Richard B. Hodges of Garden City Utah reports to Lackland AFB near San Antonio Texas to begin thirteen weeks of basic airmen indoctrination. The course assesses aptitude for future Air Force technical training and specialized assignment.
The Gold and Green Ball took place in the ward hall with a large attendance. Alice Robinson reigned as Gold and Green Queen, with attendants Margaret Willis Donna Earley and LuJuan Barley. Mc Kay Willis was Prince Charming. flower girls Patricia Weston and Crystal Johnson. crown bearer Norman Johnson. The floor show Dance of the Colors featured 32 teens. guests included Stake directors Thos. Piggott and Grant Bateman plus visitors from Garden City Fish Haven Randolph and Coalville. Music by the Harmony Hounds.
Curtis Austin of Liberty has been named for a church mission in the Central States Mission with headquarters in Independence Missouri. A farewell event in Liberty featured solos and remarks, then a farewell dance is planned for February 25 as William Matthews departs for a Netherlands mission and will enter the Salt Lake Mission Home on March 6.
Mr and Mrs Russell Porter and family of Montpelier spent the weekend at the Angus Porter home. Mrs Grimmett cared for Mrs Louisa Grimmett the past week. Mrs Sarno G Hoge arrived from Blackfoot to stay with her mother Mrs Louisa Grimmett a week or ten days. Angus Porter Christian and Adeline Tueller attended the Logan Temple Excursion Monday. Glen Caldwell plans to move to Salt Lake City after housing becomes available. Mrs Wthel Jensen hosted her bridge club with Bertha Hoge Emma Shepherd Edina Shepherd Inez Tunks Dorothy Tueller Audrey Monson Lucified High score and refreshments. Mrs Ernest Armatage celebrated her daughter Myrna’s 8th birthday with games ice cream and cake for Joyce Beck Dorothy Nye Marie Ward Norene Korn Ruth Bateman Rose Ann Kelsey Kwila Parker Louanne Wyler Moselle Budge Barbara Taylor Marilyn Lewis Sandra Barnett Betty Ramey.
Frederick Leslie Shepherd age 60 a Paris native and longtime Paris merchant died Saturday afternoon at his Logan home apparently of a heart attack He was born May 31 1889 in Paris son of Frederick Tracey and Elizabeth Morgan Shepherd He married Hazel Rich in 1910 at the Salt Lake Temple He later moved with his family to Logan in 1936 He was an elder in Logan Fourth Ward and served as ward teacher and temple worker He is survived by his widow six sons and daughters and eight grandchildren Funeral services were held Tuesday in the Logan Fourth Ward chapel with interment in Logan Cemetery.
A bond election for a proposed project ended with a 917 to 19 tally. Mrs. Ivan Beck hosted Joyce Beck’s eighth birthday party on Friday February 10. Guests played games, photos were taken, and Joyce distributed gifts with Valentines and favors.
The Rainbow Rod & Gun Club outlines three prize dances. March 4 at State Line Dustys Border, March 17 in Paris pavilion, and April 7 at Montpelier Schirm building. Tickets cover all three dances and enter the final prize drawing.
Ezra J. Poulsen of Parla writes Birthright a Utah Printing Co Salt Lake City release late this month a 100000 word drama set mainly in Bear Lake Valley Paris with themes of phosphate mining Fielding Academy and UDS church. Poulsen a longtime educator journalist and poet has worked at Garden City Junior High School Junb take LDS Seminary Nephi Granite High Salt Lake Tribune Telegram and other outlets. The story blends authentic Bear Lake life with strong drama and heart warming intensity.
Elmer Wahlstrom of Laketown will appear in the Utah State Agricultural College production of Verdi’s Rigoletto at Logan’s Capitol Theatre on March 1 and 2. He is joined by director Walter Welt and conductor N Woodruff Christiansen, with Welt noted for opera leadership and Christiansen directing USAC’s orchestra and teaching at Columbia University’s Summer School. Diane Rich was selected to dance in the floor show during Leadership Week at Ricks College.
Fielding High will face Soda Springs in the District Basketball tournament play-off at Bancroft Friday night. The eight-team double elimination includes two divisional rounds Friday and Saturday at Bancroft and American Falls with winners advancing to a state Class B bid in Lewiston.

Ruth Price played Mam z Moselle for the pageant and floor show directed by Duane and Rosalie Hansen Reba Collings and John Stucki. Queens and attendants listed include first ward Loueen Porter Roy Nye Margaret Rich Adelia Stucki Christen Rich Stephen Stuck Trainbearer Richard Stucki second ward Lois Athay LaMar Price Nel da Lewis Marilyn Grimmett Maxine Hansen Blaine Parker Jean Rogers crown bearer.
Roy Nye from Logan attended the Gold and Green Ball last Friday. Mrs. Eldon Webb hosted her sewing club on Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. John W Roberts and sons from Diamondville Wyoming were Sunday guests at Angus Porter’s home.
The Extension Service and local Soil Conservation Servicesman host a series of meetings in multiple communities to explain soil conserving practices. Special plot pictures will be shown. Schedule includes Ovid on Feb 27, Bern on March 2, Sharon March 7, Noonan March 8, St Charles March 10, and Bloomington March 10.
Garden City MIA hosted its annual Gold and Green Ball on Saturday with the Farrell Spencer orchestra providing music. Queen Beth Tremelling and Prince Charming Reed Wamsley led the crowd, with train bearers Della Hansen Sharleen Sims and Todd Kimball. A floor show showcased Teen Agers including Le Roy Freeman Kay Dean Freeman Dick Wamsley and others, crowned by President Rex Cook.
Abeerden Malad Paris Montpelier Soda Springs Aberdeen and Pare city teams compete in a five session state basketball tournament to determine Idaho's national Legion tourney representative. Games run March 9 to 11 with 60 cent adult and student admission 30 cents for younger children.
Martin John Hansen 66 died at his Montpelier home after years bedridden since 1937. Born February 9 1884 in Denmark he came to the U S as a child settling first in Bloomington then Montpelier. Survived by widow two sons Clifford and Vernon three daughters seven teen grandchildren and siblings. funeral held Wednesday at Montpelier Second Ward Chapel.
Brattleboro Idaho breeder Jesse Matthews among six Idaho Holstein farmers admitted to the Holstein-Friesian Association of America by unanimous Board vote. The national body, largest dairy cattle recording group, counts about 49 000 breeders and over 4 200 000 animals in its Herd Book. Guests at a Thursday buffet hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bird included Archie Vallentine, Mead Stevens, Lester Alfred, and Mr. and Mrs. H. Collings. A February 15 literary club meeting at Pauline Cox's home featured Virginia Taylor reviewing Ora Pata Stewart's I Talk About My Children. attendees listed.
The Conda Boy Scouts held their 40th anniversary banquet on Sunday February 22 with Master of ceremonies Kenneth Marshall and Scoutmaster Lew Skinner guiding a short program. District Commissioner Raymond Maughn and Scout Executive Ray Balmforth attended as visiting dignitaries.
Garden City Friday afternoon the Relief Society hosted a party honoring Mrs. Ethel Cook who wed Saturday to Mr. Henry Shirley of Evanston Wyoming. Mrs. Lazette Satterthwaite led games while the Presidency served punch and cookies. A G E combination waffle iron and sandwich toaster was presented. Fifty ladies attended.
The regular PTA meeting was held Wednesday evening with President Melinda Wyler presiding. Avis Painter led a Founders Day program featuring John Jaussi on a chess horn solo, a 6th grade girls chorus, and Hann showcasing slides. The Paris southwest district served jelly and cookies.
