Spartans win thriller after trailing in Bancroft

Bancroft Saturday night house crowd watched the Spartans rally from behind late in the game to edge out Bancroft 47 to secure a leading finish. The setback followed a sequence of losses and tight games as Fielding’s squad showed resilience in a hard fought contest against Grace and Ban.

Services Held for Randolph Lady Bowden Nicholla

Funeral services for Bowden Nicholla 42 were held in Randolph Ward with Bishop Earl Passey officiating. Nicholla born Oct 11 1907 in Alty Heber and Mary Bow married to Lavear. She and her husband Robert Strong Nicholis and Arden Rodney Bowden of Randolph survive. Five brothers Charles Bow Lionel Bowden Oliver Bowden also listed of Randolph.

Ferrol Sleight Dies in Wyoming Gun Accident

Funeral services were held for Ferrol Sleight 35 in Montpelier after he died from a self inflicted shotgun accident at his Border Wyoming home. Sleight, a Navy veteran and former service station owner, left a gun in the car and reportedly discharged it on the stairs. He is survived by his widow Ruby Sleight, a son Warren, and several siblings.

Special Interest Project Raises Funds for Ward Chapel Sound System

The Paris 2nd ward Special Interest Group held a dance and cake pie auction under Weldon E Grandy to raise money for a ward chapel sound system. Gross receipts were 203.50 with a net 176.50 donated to the Second Ward Bishopric. A large crowd attended the Tuesday event with Glen Grimmett as auctioneer and proceeds also supporting MIA candy sales.

State Legion basketball tourney set for Paris

The State American Legion basketball tournament will be held in Paris from March 9 to 11 pending plans. Five or six teams including Malad Soda Springs Montpelier Aberdeen Paris and possibly Boise have registered. The winner advances to the National Legion tournament in Wichita Kansas. A round robin format with 10 to 12 games is being discussed and details are to be finalized this week.

Paris Wards Gold and Green Ball Planned Friday

The annual Gold and Green Ball for the two Paris wards will be held in the pavilion Friday evening February 17. A special floor show and presentation of the Queens will occur at intermission around 10 30 p m. The Simmons orchestra of Grace will provide music for a combined budget dance inviting guests from other wards.
