Bancroft Saturday night house crowd watched the Spartans rally from behind late in the game to edge out Bancroft 47 to secure a leading finish. The setback followed a sequence of losses and tight games as Fielding’s squad showed resilience in a hard fought contest against Grace and Ban.
Funeral services for Bowden Nicholla 42 were held in Randolph Ward with Bishop Earl Passey officiating. Nicholla born Oct 11 1907 in Alty Heber and Mary Bow married to Lavear. She and her husband Robert Strong Nicholis and Arden Rodney Bowden of Randolph survive. Five brothers Charles Bow Lionel Bowden Oliver Bowden also listed of Randolph.
EK P Cleveland reports harmony between Utah Power and Light Company and the Electrical Workers Union after joint meetings in Salt Lake City. Local 57 president notes added benefits for 1950 including extended vacation, increased sick leave, higher company funded hospitalization, and a 2 percent wage increase across all schedules.
A Boy Scout Court of Honor in St Charles Feb 6 drew forty four attendees including Morris Athay and wife Stake Scout Commissioner LeRoy Hirachi in charge. Second Class badges went to Gary Cleveland Glen Rich Larry Pugmire Dale Wilkes Livya Hemmert Roger Pugmaire Dean Michaelson Hervin Hem mert. LeRoy Hirschi and Douglas Arnell earned Merit and Life badges. a pot luck supper followed.
Funeral services were held for Ferrol Sleight 35 in Montpelier after he died from a self inflicted shotgun accident at his Border Wyoming home. Sleight, a Navy veteran and former service station owner, left a gun in the car and reportedly discharged it on the stairs. He is survived by his widow Ruby Sleight, a son Warren, and several siblings.
The Paris 2nd ward Special Interest Group held a dance and cake pie auction under Weldon E Grandy to raise money for a ward chapel sound system. Gross receipts were 203.50 with a net 176.50 donated to the Second Ward Bishopric. A large crowd attended the Tuesday event with Glen Grimmett as auctioneer and proceeds also supporting MIA candy sales.
The State American Legion basketball tournament will be held in Paris from March 9 to 11 pending plans. Five or six teams including Malad Soda Springs Montpelier Aberdeen Paris and possibly Boise have registered. The winner advances to the National Legion tournament in Wichita Kansas. A round robin format with 10 to 12 games is being discussed and details are to be finalized this week.
One hundred thirty Lions Lionesses and guests attended a joint dinner Wednesday at Emerson School gym Paris. Sherman B Lowe hosted with a program including prayer and songs by Ruth Ann Smart fina Brown Marilyn Grimmett and others. The Emerson PTA catered the banquet then dancing followed with music by Mr. and Mrs. Farrell Spencer.
Liberty The Boy Scout Court of Honor was held here Tuesday evening for our MIA meeting with Iv an Hymas presiding. Songs, prayers and a series of demonstrations followed. Second class badges went to five Scouts and merit badges to two. A talk by Jerry Burnham and closing prayer by Frank Brown completed the program.
Local notices include the D UP meeting set for Thursday February 23 at Mrs Herbert Spencer's home. Social updates report Mire Pete Grandy visiting at the Leo Bunderson residence in St Charles and various USAC students home for the weekend.
The Rainbow Rod and Gun club will hold its regular monthly meeting next Monday evening February 20. President Dr. Stock says Big Game and Migratory Water Fowl problems will be discussed and two films titled Salmon Spawning and Big Game Feeding will be shown.
The Fifth District Class B tournament will be at Bancroft and American Falls on February 24 and 25. Eight teams with the best league records enter playoffs, with Bancroft slated to host. Only two teams will be eliminated. six league teams advance to the final district tourney at Bancroft March 1 to 4. Pairings depend on week’s season results.
The annual Old Folks party in St Charles included morning prayers, an address, reminiscences, musical selections, skits, and a "Dummy" play. Attendees traveled from Brigham City Ogden Logan Paris Montpelier and Dingle for the Saturday event with dinner, lunch and dancing to close the day.
The MIA Gold and Green Ball was held Friday night with Merlin Dunn's orchestra providing music. Dana Wood was Queen and Weldon Nye Prince Charming, with attendants Lou Jean Morgan Bin s Brown Dee Hymas and Nile Matthews. Corsage bearers were Dean Morgan and Terry Hymas. Train bearers were Jackie Sleight and Dennis Hymas, crown bearer Rodney Bergholm. The floor show included Elaine Hymas Ann Marie Hymas Genise Morgan Verla Mae Morgan Bruce Humpherys Delmar Derricott Eldon Morgan Darrell Nicholingon. A large crowd attended. Mrs Don Stucki and son Kent joined her parents in traveling to Cleveland last Tuesday to visit sister Mrs Norma Burton and family.
The Iowa Colored Ghosts visit Fielding High School Gym to face Bear Lake All-stars with a top rated ball handling squad. A preliminary pits Fielding and Montpelier Junior Varsities in a close rivalry. Paris Lions club sponsors the event. admission is 76 cents.
The annual Gold and Green Ball for the two Paris wards will be held in the pavilion Friday evening February 17. A special floor show and presentation of the Queens will occur at intermission around 10 30 p m. The Simmons orchestra of Grace will provide music for a combined budget dance inviting guests from other wards.
Preliminary music by Florence Willis and others. Sacrament administered by multiple officers. Speakers include Wayne Willis and Lorin Weston. Temple notice lists two morning companies daily and two evening sessions, with specific recording times and about 100 per early company.
Sunday visits and weekend stays involve Mrs. Clarence Rich in Gar den City Georgetown and St Charles residents visiting relatives in Montpelier. Several families entertain and visit, with appendectomy recoveries including Mike Beth Gertsch and tarry Passey. A temple schedule from Logan Temple Presidency notes a 6 30 to 7 00 pm window to handle large groups.
St Charles residents gathered as the Boy Scouts commemorated the 46th anniversary of Scouting. Scout Commissioner Jerry Burnham attended and presented the Scoutmaster Key for meritorious service, with LeRoy being the first Bear Lake Stake recipient.
The Father and Son banquet was held last Thursday evening at Bloomington ward amusement hall with 117 by Turkey dinner. Ralph Roghaar acted as master of ceremonies and the program included opening player Paul Haddock trumpet Lynn Budge piano solo Meryle Ward benediction W Budge and Albert Millec.

A Sunday evening meeting in the Stake tabernacle honored Aaronioe Priesthood and Teen Age girls with 80 Priesthood and 119 Teen-Age Girl Awards. Perfect Records earned inscribed volumes were awarded, with recitals by Thomas J. Dunford and others, in a ceremony attended by 479 people.

The schedule lists Paris Zions Club May events and several Stake MIA notices with multiple entries, plus notes that some activities are not held in C19 pavilion.
