Sub-district tightens with Fielding edging American Falls

Fielding defeated American Falls 40 to 37 in a decisive sub-district final at Bancroft. Strong late scoring by Roger Humpherys helped Fielding pull away in the final quarter while American Falls never led after halftime. The district finals move to Bancroft with games slated Wednesday through Saturday featuring Bancroft Soda Springs Aberdeen Am Falls Fielding and McCammon.

Paris Woman Dies After Lingering Illness

Mrs. Frank Bolton died Tuesday February 28 at about 4 a.m. in Caribou County Hospital Soda Springs after a lingering illness. Alice Price Bolton born January 20 1883 Paris Idaho daughter of Robert and Christina Price. She married Frank Bolton June 1 1904 in Logan Temple. Funeral services scheduled Friday March 3 at 11 p.m. in the Paris Second Ward chapel.

Welcome Home Social For Returned Missionaries

Liberty Ward hosted a Welcome Home social Tuesday night for returned missionaries Robert Brown and Lynn Austin. The program included songs America the Beautiful and Among My Souvenirs, solos by Kent Poulsen, Elna Brown, and a vocal trio, plus talks by Lynn Austin, Robert Brown, and Bishop W K Matthews, followed by dancing and refreshments.

Twins of Salt Lake City Injured in Street Accident

D O Rawa and Sally and Sammy Rawson, three and a half year old twins of Salt Lake City, are in fair condition at Salt Lake LIDS hospital after a car driven by C E Holladay jumped the curb on State Street. Mrs Rawson suffered shock and back abrasions. the family previously lived at Camp Lipton where Mr Rawson supervised a power plant.

BYU Amateur Radio Club Elects First Vice President

Owen S Rich son of Mr and Mrs M P Rich of Paris was elected 1st vice president of BYU's newly formed Amateur Ham Radio Club. Faculty advisor Leland M Perry notes objectives to promote ham radio, connect university members with distant contacts, and enable campus users to reach friends through nationwide links. Rich is a BYU senior majoring in physics.

FHS Junior Prom Slated for March 10th

Fielding High School announces its annual Junior Prom on March 10 in the Paris pavilion. The semi formal dance features Grace orchestra and the theme song There's No Tomorrow. Admission is 1.20 dollars per couple with 85 cents for each additional lady tax included.

Four Fielding Students Attend Youth Legislature in Pocatello

Fielding High School sent four students Jack Allred Jim Burnett Lucille Hulme and LaRue Crawford to the Youth Legislature in Pocatello on February 18 with plans to attend Boise later. YMCA sponsorship aimed to deepen understanding of government functions. Speakers included A L Merrill J W Root and J O Anderson with talks on Whither America Mechanics of Youth and Government How to Prepare a Bill and Legislative Procedure. Lynn Davis shared experiences visiting Washington and 23 other states.

Scout Court of Honor Held at Ovid

Scoutmaster L J Shurtliff presided a candle light Court of Honor in Ovid on February 23. Nine scouts earned First Class badges pinned by mothers, four earned Second Class, and one received a Tenderfoot badge. Glen Nielsen performed a solo with Janette Olsen at piano, plus a skit by Norman Beck Gary Olsen and Bobby Dean Jensen, a saxophone duet by Darrell and Dell Sorenson. A plate lunch followed.

Marsh Valley School Consolidation Faces Protest

Protesters from Downey and McCammon oppose Marsh Valley Class A District No 21 plans to consolidate four high schools into a single Arimo based high school. They warn transportation would require double shifts starting as early as 6 a.m., affecting about 400 pupils. The board led by Leo Hansen did not decide after the protest.

Lyman H Rich head of extension work in agriculture and home economics at USAC Logan will present an illustrated Europe tour on Sunday evening March 12 featuring London France Switzerland Italy Germany Holland Denmark Sweden Norway Scotland and a transatlantic return. Former Paris Lady Dies in Logan Sunday

Funeral services for Pearl Sheph herd Hall 41 who died Sunday night in a Logan hospital after several weeks illness were held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Logan Fifth ward chapel. She was born June 21 1908 in Paris Idaho to Jos Russell and Charlotte Wye Sheph herd and moved to Logan in 1925. She had served as an assistant recorder in the Logan Temple for ten years and is survived by her mother two sons Ann Russell and Kurt Hall all of Logan two sisters Aurelia Wixom of Logan Nyena Nelson of Salt Lake and Czern WN Shepherd of Jerome Idaho.

Missionary Farewell Dance Held for Wm. Matthews

A farewell dance was held Saturday night for William Matthews son of Mr and Mrs A H Matthews who is leaving soon for the Netherland Mission field. The program included prayers readings solos duets and a Bloomington quartet with remarks by William Matthews and Harold Pugmire. A large crowd attended the event in Liberty.

Census crew chief named for Bear Lake and Caribou counties

Phil Tunks of Montpelier appointed census crew chief for Bear Lake and Caribou counties, announced by Weller Rowell, U S Bureau of the Census district supervisor in Pocatello. Tunks scored 20 of 31 on the qualifying exam and is a former editor of the Weber College Sign Post and co editor of the Utah Daily Chronicle studied political science and journalism at the University of Utah.

WISH HAVEN The Ward Bishopric was reorganized here Sunday by the Stake Presidency. Bishop Owen Stock and counselors Arthur Shirley and Glen Stock were released. The new bishopric includes Glen Stock as Bishop, Arthur Shirley as First Counselor, Donovan Howell as Second Counselor, and Warl Pugmire who served as clerk retains that capacity.

Montpelier Legion Auxiliary Plans March 4 Hospital Benefit

The Montpelier American Legion Auxiliary announces a gala benefit at Bear Lake Memorial Hospital on Saturday March 4 with bridge canasta Pinochle and rock games and a grand prize in the afternoon and night. Bingo tickets and refreshments will be sold with gifts from Montpelier merchants and a fortune telling booth. Proceeds go to the hospital and the event is open to men and women.

Funeral services for Maria Eliza Stuck

Funeral services for Maria Eliza Stuck will be held March 4 at 1 p.m. in the Paris 2nd ward chapel with Bishop Clarence M. Rich conducting. Burial will be in Paria cemetery. She died peacefully at 84 at 810 Hast 4th North in Logan Utah after a long heart ailment. She was born October 1, 1865 in Kefikon Thurgau Switzerland and later moved to Idaho and Paris. She was a devoted member of the LDS Church and survived by her son Bred J. Stuck, among other relatives in Idaho and Utah.

Former Laketown Man Dies Friday of Heart Attack

Archilles Nebeker 79 died Friday of a heart attack at Holy Cross hospital Salt Lake City. Born August 3 1870 in Laketown he lived there and in Shelly Idaho. He married Dora Stanton October 24 1899 in Logan. Survived by wife three sons and three daughters twelve grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday in the Salt Lake 17th ward.
