Household Tips From an Old Time Column
Practical hints cover cleaning and DIY tasks. Dip string tips in clear nail polish for stiff ends. Soak dishes in hot soapy water to save time. Boil walnuts briefly to keep cakes moist. Place a ticking clock to soothe a crying puppy. Rub vinegar on fish before scaling for easier prep. Brush rug edges with hot starch and press. Choose stainless steel for durability. Use wrappers as yarn cores to track weights and colors.
A Special Christmas Turkey with Apricot Stuffing
A 12 to 15 pound turkey is lightly stuffed with apricot filling and trussed. Butter a rack and open roasting pan, spread shortening over the breast and limbs, and roast at 225 F for about four to five hours. Baste often and test doneness by clear juices from the thigh. If wings or legs darken early, cover with foil.
