Idaho Tax Outlook and Prison Cannery Progress
The State Board of Equalization anticipates a smaller county tax base but a roughly two million dollar net state tax increase this year. A large cash balance is expected by June 30 1945 and a possible elimination or reduction of the ad valorem tax is under discussion. Wartime production at the penitentiary includes a cannery and a new sealer, with 4000 gallons canned to aid state institutions. Warden Poarch reports slab wood output will supply Boise fuel needs. Visitors Dr Fred T Foard and Dr A V Detbert discussed health inspections and a Soldiers’ home hospital conversion for venereal disease treatment.
