The Preston Citizen notes John D. Lewis 80 of Paris Idaho attended the ninth Preston Night Rodeo. A famed long time range rider he could identify cattle and brands from memory. He joined the chamber of commerce at the rodeo and recalled dangerous winters driving cattle with his dog Bob. Lewis and his wife were parents to twelve children.

Absentee Ballots Should Be Mailed Out Immediately
Auditor Sam V. Tunks urges immediate mailing of absentee ballots to ensure timely arrival for the election. About 125 ballots have been issued to service members overseas, with requests typically coming from the soldiers themselves. Any party can request a ballot for a service member by providing the requester’s name and the recipient’s name and address, plus the service member’s current address. Forms are available at the county clerk’s office. All service members who will be 21 by November 7, 1944 should be allowed to vote.

Andrew S Thompson received a formal award at the Pocatello Army Air Field for faithful meritorious and exceptional service. A Bloomington native, he is the son of Hyrum and Ceriasg Thompson, married to Dora Allred of St. Charles, with two children Nancy Marie and Bobby. He has three brothers in the service abroad and in New Guinea and the Atlantic fleets. Previously a Civilian Conservation Corps leader, he served in the Quartermaster Department and later joined the Pocatello Air Field staff in 1943, remaining there through recent years.
