Bear Lake County Fair August 28 29 30 features horse races acts and horse pulling with $2000 in purses for two afternoon shows. A pioneer parade Friday at 1 pm and dances on all three nights at the fair grounds chaired by J D McClellan.
Blaine Thornock ten son of Mr and Mrs Gwen Thornock of St Anthony suffered a bullet wound in his right arm while visiting his grandparents in Bloomington He was helping his grandfather stack hay when a stray bullet struck him He was rushed to a hospital and the wound dressed The shooter fired near a water stream Blaine is recovering Mr Thornock principal of St Anthony High school came with wife to visit relatives
All Findlay family members are invited to a reunion at Fish Haven on Sunday August 24 at 12 noon. Attendees should bring their own lunch. After lunch, a business meeting will be held followed by a program and social. Findlay, President.
Members of the Jaussi family gathered Sunday afternoon at the Paris home for a reunion and a chicken dinner for 22. Attendees included John Jaussi and children of Georgetown, Rolland Jaussi and Montpelier group, Clifford Jaussi and Geneva family, J L Jaussi party of Georgetown, Roland Hobbs of Linrose with son, Aurelia Jaussi of Salt Lake, Worman and Larry Jaussi. Absent were Mr and Wm Jaussi of Provo and Marion Martin family of California.
Readable fragments show a new farm to market road near Ovid to Liberty, described as wide yet rough and possibly unfinished. Paris business upgrades loom with Seymour Sleight extending the Price Burnitureatore building, Sherm Lowe starting a new home, and trout released into Bloomington creek.
County Assessor James N. Transtrum reports aerial photographs of Bear Lake County arrived last week for property reclassification and revaluation. Work is planned this fall and winter under the State Tax Commission, with statewide efforts underway.
Albert H. Hill 63 of St. Charles and former Bear Lake resident died August 6 in San Francisco after four years with the Greyhound Bus Company. Born March 7 1883 he worked 18 years in Cheyenne with the Union Pacific Railroad. Surviving are five brothers and three sisters. Funeral services were held Tuesday in the St. Charles ward chapel with interment in St. Charles cemetery. Matthew Mortuary arranged the services.
Livestock health rules require cattle to travel with a health certificate and Bang's test negative chart from an approved veterinarian within sixty days. Tests must be conducted at the Bureau Laboratory and results are time sensitive this week. Dr. W W Brown cooperates with the Bang's testing program, urging rapid testing before Fajr time.
Miss Ann Grimmett returns from Boise where she visited at the home of her sister in law Mrs. Vernon Rich. Harl Privett and family of Magna Utah visited grandparents Mr and Mrs Walter Lewis from Tuesday to Friday. Daughters of Utah Pioneers meet Aug 28 at Mrs Alice Bolton home with officer elections. Logan visitors include Mr and Mrs W Smith Hoge. Various residents hosted or attended visits and events including a night rodeo in Logan and cattle movement to the Jordan market.
Blackfoot hosts the Eastern Idaho state fair September 9 to 13 with daily horse races and high purses. Frank G. DeKay president, Buehler director, Ival Wartow manager, Tate Taylor paddock steward announce strong entries from Northwest and Midwest. Bob White of Chicago will announce the races.
Christian Tueller celebrated his 85th birthday with a Monday afternoon party at the Tueller home. About 43 relatives attended, including 22 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, with gifts and readings from absent relatives.
The 1947 premium list for the Bear Lake County Fair adds many classes, notably in Dept. 2 Horses with more saddle breeds and in Dept. 8 Beef Cattle. Changes issued after printing, leaves exhibitors with a mineographed supplement. Entries for Women’s Work accepted until 11 am August 28.
Janet Grimmett spent a few days as a guest of Kenneth Rich at the G. B. Rich home in Salt Lake City and returned home Saturday.
William A C Keetch a longtime farmer and civic worker of St Charles died Monday morning at his home from a heart attack. Born October 11 1871 in St Charles he was survived by son Alfred and daughters Theo Naomi and eleven grandchildren. Funeral services set for Thursday at 2 p m in the St Charles Ward chapel.
Gail Siddoway of Laketown recently purchased the Grocery and Service Station at the corner of 2nd South and Main Street from Ferrill Sleight. The plant will be repainted and stocked with groceries auto parts and Ginclair gasoline and oils. Siddoway, a former Army Air Corps airman, plans to live behind the business and welcomes customers and associates.
The County Extension Agent has mailed Fair Premium books to last year's prize winners and to all committeemen. Books are available at the News examiner office Thiel and Olsen Qontpelier Coal and Lumber in Montpelier or at the County Agent's office in Paris. Exhibitors are urged to enter as many items as possible and to review the rules in the premium book.
Grace Johnson will present The Mormon Miracle at 6 p.m. August 22 in Montpelier High School auditorium. The Bear Lake and Montpelier districts sponsor the event free of charge as the sole presentation in Bear Lake County. Johnson, author of Colter's Hell, has lectured widely and hosted at Yellowstone Canyon Lodge, highlighting Mormon history and theology in a single show.
The Tueller families of Jacob J. and John K. Tueller held a reunion August 8 to 10 at Ideal Beach. About 380 of 800 descendants attended. Activities included a bonfire, community singing, and musical numbers, plus a business meeting reelecting officers John J. Tueller president and Walter Tueller with Eva Lynch.

On August 18 at 3 p m thirty eight Primary children and eleven officers and teachers gathered at the church house Garden City for singing and prayer led by President Ruth Hansen. They hiked to the grove by the lake for games campfire supper and Dutch oven cooking.

The Emergon Grade School plans to begin the 1947 48 term on September 8 with principal Ralph Roghaar announcing full teaching staff and grade assignments Led by Roghaar in 8th grade Ming Lethe D Madsen 7th grade Mrs Beth R West 6th grade and Mabel Athay 4th 2nd grade Avis Painter 1st grade The music department will be directed by Raymond H Webb and Beth West will handle the chorus The upper grades will be placed in departmental work
Preston police officer W A Lenerman was jailed on suspicion of involvement in a robbery at the Preston city building. $2,000 in cash and $3,900 in checks were taken from a locked filing cabinet as fingerprints on a window sill tied Lenerman to the crime. he denies the charges. Lenerman, a stranger to Preston, previously worked as a policeman in Florida and Georgia and has no family.
Pete Grandy spent Wednesday in Salt Lake City and Mrs Lucy Poulsen returned from a visit in Bountiful Utah. The Wednesday Evening Sawing club had a canyon party. Bil and Bob Sessions and Bert Holt from DiCentro California visited the Clarence Heap home. J N Transtroom attended a Boise meeting on 1947 tax values to meet state equalization. Wm Lauritzen drove to Logan and back with a hospitalised wife. Charles Innes returned from Salt Lake on business. John Hoge traveled to Ogden after visiting at Wright Innes. Mrs Homer Tuinks arrived from Portland for a 10 day visit with Mr Walter Bird. Mr and Mrs Hart Grimmett and son Kenneth of Moscow arrived for a relatives visit, Miss Ann Grimmett accompanying from Bolae. Mrs Lloyd Hansen hosted for her children's birth anniversaries Cheryl and Craig. The afternoon included games and cake and ice cream for Kathy and Diane Wyler, Karl and Susan Nelson, Laren Mighel, Stary and Myre Armatage, Tyrils, Roy Parker, Bungo, Deanland, Larry Jacobson, Jos Heap, Qzantrand Pacey, Diane and Lidat Lawis, Ruth Bateman, Orlaire Rene, Cleo Taylor and Jerzy Gelion.
