Providence Utah man killed on North Beach St near Mud Lake
Thiel Wamsley a 50 year old Providence Utah supervisor for Le Grande Johnson Construction Co was killed instantly when a 25 ton turn pull backed over him while talking to a grade checker on a fill near the new bridge over the inlet to Mud Lake Bear Lake State Park. Morris Matthews also of Providence operated the machine and discovered Wamsley after backing from the fill. The Bear Lake County Sheriff’s Dept investigated the accident.

Pickups and trailer damaged in mishap near Montpelier
Investigating officer reports an accident at 7 45 a m Saturday one and a half miles south of Montpelier on U S 30 North involving H Marie Nelson 18 of Montpelier and Kenneth Johnson 51 of Davis California. Nelson was driving a pickup truck and failed to make a turn Davis attempted to pass Nelson turned in front of the Davis vehicle causing a broadside impact. Johnson vehicle sustained about 300 in damage to the right front and rear from the house trailer he was towing. Nelson truck damage estimated at 800 with no injuries.

Mike G. Talbot, 22, of font pelier, struck a herd of cattle on Hwy 89 near Paris, killing two and injuring three. two more cattle were hurt but recovering. The owner, Darwin Wallentine, had left a gate open from a pasture. Talbot’s car traveled 309 feet before stopping. loss to Wallentine about 1400 dollars. Talbot taken to Bear Ke Hospital for observation.

Paris Native Thelma Sommerfield Dies in California
Thelma P Sommerfield a Paris native died suddenly at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital on August 11. She was born March 25 1912 in Paris and married Raymond L Sommerfield in Santa Barbara on August 6 1989. Surviving are her husband her mother Kay Arnell a brother two sisters and a step mother Funeral services were held August 15 with Dr James Nelson officiating and interment at Santa Barbara Cemetery.
