Two Sisters Drown at Bear Lake Resort
LuGene Watkins 16 and Eva Lee Watkins 18 daughters of Mr and Mrs Lee Watkins Montpelier drowned near Lakota Beach on Bear Lake in late Wednesday evening. LuGene's body was found in Swan Creek channel by Patrolman Evan Green Thursday at 10 am. Eva Lee's body recovered Friday near the initial site in about 10 feet of water. The sisters vacationed at a cabin with Helen Schmid and Barbara Peterson and swam after leaving the group around 6 pm Wednesday. neither could swim well Eva Lee could not swim. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 pm in Montpelier Fourth LDS ward chapel. Burial in Downey Idaho cemetery. F M Williams Mortuary handled arrangements.

Officers elected at Infantile Paralysis chapter meeting
The Local Chapter of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis met at the Hotel Paris last Friday with M Edward Williams presiding. Orvis Thompson Home After 40 Months in Pacific Service
Word reached the Hyrm Thompsons that their son Pfc. Orvis H Thompson has been released from overseas duty and is en route home. He was Bloomington’s first local to enter service, volunteering from Pocatello as a National Guard on August 5, 1940, and served forty months in the southwest Pacific.

Chicago Woman Killed in Accident Near Montpelier
Rose Garvey 41 formerly of Salt Lake City died at Bear Lake hospital Montpelier from a mid week crash one mile south of Montpelier on the old Oregon trail. Passenger in a car driven by Moses M Slavat the vehicle left the road and rolled into a borrow pit. Slavat survived with bruises. Garvey's survivors include his mother Mrs Clara Garvey of Chicago and four brothers.

St Charles Navy airman missing in action since July twenty four
Hugh Crae Wilson, 25, naval air corps, son of Mr and Mrs W A Wilson of St Charles and husband of Darlene Hayward Wilson of Salt Lake City, has been missing in the Pacific since July 24. Born Sept 2, 1919 in Boulder Utah he graduated Granite high school and served an LDS mission before entering the navy in 1942. His wife and three week old daughter Trudy, plus three brothers in the army and navy and three sisters, survive him. The Wilsons also own Bear Lake Hot Springs.

Mary Kearl Ashley Dead in Salt Lake Hospital
Former Bear Lake resident Mary Kearl Ashley died last week in a Salt Lake City hospital after a brief illness. Born in Lake Town Utah, she married Dr. Georga B. Ashley in 1902 and lived in St. Louis New Orleans Paris Montpelier and finally Montpelier where funeral services were held. Survived by two children two sisters several half siblings and three grandchildren.

Sgt Lloyd J. Passey, son of Mrs Garrie Passey of Paris Idaho, has reported to the Army Redistribution station in Santa Barbara for reassignment based on seven months of duty in Harapa.
