The local war price and rationing board said four additional pounds will be mailed to every person who received nine pounds or less after June 15. No new application needed. Volunteers invited to help process and mail envelopes promptly.
Rex E. Rogers S 1/c USNR of Paris Idaho served aboard the escort carrier Rudyerd Bay as it supported three major Pacific operations. The ship ferried planes to Espiritu Santo and Majuro, aided at Iwo Jima, protected fleet oil tankers during the Philippines invasion, and faced a typhoon that sank three U S destroyers.
The Delta Del Bridge club entertained their husbands with a picnic supper Wednesday evening at Paris park. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Allyn Bundergon, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Inges, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Hann, Mr. and Mrs. Max Haddock, Mr. and Mrs. Rylyn Quay, Mr. and Mrs. Reed Tpelier, Mr. and Mrs. Joan Beck, Mrs. Fom Tueller and Mrs. Maypelje Dennis.
Beth West of Paris and George Hokema of Bozeman Montana were united in marriage in a Bear Lake Stake tabernacle vestry ceremony August 11. The bride wore pale green. Leonora Stucki played the organ. The couple left for Bozeman the same evening by Jackson and Yellowstone to start their home.
Funeral services for Elmer H. Smith of Fish Haven were conducted Thursday August 9 at the Fish Haven ward chapel. The program featured remarks by Alfred W. Howell and Bishop C C Shirley, songs by local singers, and a closing prayer by Robert Calder. Interment followed in Fish Haven cemetery with dedication by Ernest Allred.
Department of Agriculture officials urged Janho cattle producers to market animals as soon as they are ready rather than all at once. The aim is to move meat quickly, prevent congestion in transportation and packing plants, and avoid bottlenecks later. The plan calls for early and orderly movement of cattle.
On August 14 1945 Paris marked victory with a horn filled car parade through town and a Montpelier procession led by American flags. A bonfire lit the center square as Hugh Shepherd organized a small music group and Dan C Rich addressed the crowd. The evening ended with dancing at the pavilion supervised by the local orchestra.
Mr and Mrs William Leuritzan report their son Loyal underwent an operation Sunday and his arm feels more natural than since his wound in the European war.
A church column urges Latter-Day Saints to be thinkers and workers, study gospel principles, and avoid rash tangents. It cites Joseph Smith and D C scriptures, then lists August 12 programs in Liberty Ward and 2nd Ward events including talks, music, and priesthood duties.
Retail stores may sell certain inexpensive men’s and women’s shoes without rationing from August 27 to October 13 18. Children’s shoes are excluded. Dealers can seek permission to sell ration-free shoes priced at 3.50 or less from the district OPA office in Boise after August 10.
Mrs Agnes Toomer marked her 75th birthday with a Aug 8 gathering hosted by Mr and Mrs Alma Poulsen in Liberty. A pot luck supper followed for relatives including John Toomer Edith Thelma Raymond Montpelier and others, with seven attendees and seventeen grandchildren plus six great grandchildren.
County committees begin accepting applications for six tenths of a cent per hundred under the beef production payment program covering May 19 to June 30. Applications must be filed by August 31, 1945 to be eligible for payment. Cattle sold after June 30 require filing within 40 days of sale. Bear Lake County AAA office has been advised. Counties urge eligible applicants to file promptly.
An increase of almost 50 percent in infantile paralysis cases for the first five months this year, per Pr. Don W. Gudakunst, medical director of the Infantile Paralysis Institute, via Mrs. John H. Hayes of Twin Falls Idaho. The U S Public Health Service reports 1424 poliomyelitis cases nationally as of July, up from 1290 last year. Mrs. Hayes urges June to September precaution: avoid overexertion, chilling, tonsil or adenoid operations during epidemics, use pure milk and water, limit contact with potentially contaminated items, and guard food from contamination. Sixty-eight physical therapy scholarships have been awarded to early applicants for the National Foundation program to train 1,000 therapists, with more scholarships to follow. qualifications include nursing or physical education degrees or two years of college with biology and sciences.

Pfc. Amos A. Barker of Laketown Utah is discharged under the adjusted service rating plan at Fort Douglas Separation Center. He wears 3 battle stars for campaigns in North Africa Sicily and Italy after enlisting February 20 1941. He was a farmer before joining the Army.
Wartime ration book five will be issued through public schools in December and go into use in January. Red and blue stamps in book four will be exhausted by September. From September through December spare stamps for meats fats and processed foods will be validated. Shoppers will refer to stamps for meats and fats and stamps for canned goods. The new book five is smaller than a dollar bill, contains half as many stamps as book four, and is numbered and arranged more conveniently.
Idaho fish and game commission will appoint beaver trappers this fall after applications. James Q. Beck says candidates will be judged on ability and fitness, with permanent positions possible after satisfactory performance. Trappers must live trap, relocate beaver in summer, and harvest fur in winter. Owners and nonowners receive 50 percent of net pelts. openings available statewide with year round employment.
Idaho fish and game officials announce federal approval extends possession window for migratory waterfowl to 80 days after season ends. Ducks and geese run October 18 to December 31 with bag limits of 10 ducks and two geese, no more than one wood duck per day. No open mourning dove season. a goate hunting season not advised.
Corporal Walter Jaussi earned the Oak Leaf Cluster for meritorious achievement during operations against the enemy in Luzon Philippines on February 5 1945. He drove a vehicle through fire swept streets to locate a former enemy supply base and gather crucial documents. He was fired upon while returning. his information aided his unit's mission. Jaussi is the son of Seymour Jaussi of Paris and holds several medals.
Staff Sergeant Harold P. Rogers of Paris Idaho received the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service in combat in Italy. He served on the Fifth Army front with the 263rd Infantry Regiment of the Powder River division. The citation praised his devotion and leadership in guiding troops through the Italian campaign with few casualties. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Alfred Rogers of Paris Idaho.
