Montpelier Group Asks Congress Probing Region 4 Reclamation

At a Bear River Protective Committee meeting in Montpelier on August 2, Chairman Lloyd Dunn announced plans to urge a U S Congress inquiry into Region 4 of the Bureau of Reclamation Salt Lake City over the Bear River Project. The committee claims the project would cost 86 million dollars, irrigate 49 766 acres plus supplement water for 59 242 more, and produce a negligible tax return, while detailing extensive canal systems and water rights disputes.

Quorum Elders Hold Park Dinner with Fare and Program

The First Quorum of Elders of Paris wards hosted an annual party at Paris park led by Walter Ward and John Hoge. Games began at 6 p m followed by a chicken dinner at 8 p m with Chef John Hoge and G B Crawford praised as the valley’s best chefs. A program featured vocal numbers by James and Lin Gon Parks, accordion solos by Sally Minson, remarks by William K Matthews, and readings by John Hoge.

Russ Athay Buys New Race Horse in Denver Meet

Paris barber Russ Athay who recently left for Denver with Mrs Athay bought another horse in a claiming race at the Denver track. The new purchase has repeatedly finished in the money, and Athay hopes to earn hay money from it through the rest of the racing season.

Civil Defense Officials Inspect Bear Lake Shelters

A July 29 tour by Richard L. Jones and Joseph Kenney examined Bear Lake shelters. Minnetonka Cave will serve as a fallout shelter with 6 000 capacity once Forest Service licensing is signed. The Bear Lake courthouse basement is marked for 50 people. Montpelier High and A J Winters School could not be marked yet.

Bird Season Set By Idaho Fish and Game Commission

The Idaho Fish and Game Commission will meet in Boise on August 15 and 16 to set dates for upland game bird seasons, cottontail rabbits, and furbearing animals. Openers include pheasants on October 5 in northern Idaho and October 26 elsewhere, with other birds opening September 14 except in certain counties, plus dove and rabbit seasons.

Three Property Deals Completed in Paris

In recent weeks several estate transactions occurred in Paris. Lloyd Hansem’s large home sold to Venoy Wallentine couple who moved in last week. Laran Burdick and wife bought Beck garage on Main Street for a cabinet shop and limited car storage. Ivan Beck owned the property for years and continues garage operations on South Main. Grandy sold his West First North home to Russell Vallentine and wife who plan to move in after closure. Grandy will relocate to Ogden to live with a daughter.

St Charles Road Show Wins Stake Title at Bloomington

St Charles group won the Bear Lake Stake road show award with a presentation titled Man With Vision at the Stake’s annual event in Bloomington ward recreation hall on Friday July 28. Celebrate Birthday of Mrs Jensen at Canyon Home

The Jensen family marked Mrs William Jensens 70th birthday at a Montpelier Canyon home hosted by Donnell and Terrell Jensens. Attendees included the Roy Patterson family of Boise DeWinn Andersons of Soda Springs and the Blanke Jensen family of Paris along with three generations of Jensens in attendance. Mrs Jensen received eight corsages each with a $10 bill to symbolize her age and many gifts from 13 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
