Genevia Raymond Rancher Wins Grassman Honor

John Dayton of the Geneva-Raymond area has been named Bear Lake county Grassman of the Year. His 10 000 acre operation includes irrigated and non irrigated pastures, irrigated cropland, range land, and livestock holdings with cattle sheep and Morgan horses. He improved range through deferred grazing sage brush control and spring water development.

U S Government Holds 75 Percent of Idaho Forests

Federal government is the largest landowner in Idaho with 75 percent of the state covered by federal forests. It administers about 11.8 million acres of commercial timber lands, while the state holds 940 thousand acres and private owners hold 3.07 million acres. Wood-using industries own 1.18 million acres and non-forest industries own 657 thousand acres.

Forest workers celebration at Porcupine Park

Cadhe National Forest Service held its annual party at Porcupine Park in St. Charles canyon with about 75 attending for dinner and an afternoon. The Pine Tree organization led the event, attendees toured Minne Monica cave, and Ranger Frank Jensen was transferred from Preston to McCall Idaho. Paris guests included Mr and Mrs Vaughn Tippetts and son David, Mr and Mrs Lou Munson and daughters, Mr and Mrs Floyd Lewis and daughters, Mrs Darlene Rich and Jolene, and Mr and Mrs Dan Morgan and family.

Hay and Granary Fire Ravages Randolph Farm Saturday

Alma Argyle Jr spotted a blaze on his farm three miles north of Randolph at 2 15 p m and called the Randolph volunteer fire department. About 1 100 bales of hay plus 4 0 bales alfalfa and 650 bales wild hay were destroyed along with two saddles and a granary. investigators sought a cause with no clues yet.

Law Family Reunion at Lakota Celebrates Annual Gathering

Eighty five Isaac Law family members met Saturday July 27 at Lakota for their annual reunion. A program followed by a picnic under the trees featured lunch. Afterward several youngsters went roller skating while others visited Dr. and Mrs. T S Poulsen’s summer home at Fish Haven for swimming and boating.

Prominent Idaho Utah businessman dies in Salt Lake

S Grover Rich Jr aged 78 intermountain area businessman died after a heart attack at 11:30 p m Monday in a Salt Lake City hospital. Born Paris June 10 1885 he married Mildred Forgeon in 1908. He helped develop Burley Utah Idaho owning a theater bank and buildings and was active in the wool industry. Survived by wife two daughters two sons four grandchildren and a brother.

Funeral services held in Blackfoot for Mrs Veda Davis

Funeral services were conducted in the Blackfoot Fourth Ward LDS chapel for Mrs. Veda Humpherys Davis 61 of Blackfoot who died July 21 after a long illness. Born September 22 1901 in Paris she lived in Bear Lake valley and worked in a local drug store. She married Lamar Davis February 4 1929 in Pocatello and in the Idaho Falls temple. Survived by husband a daughter Mrs Brian Gabler of Bellevue Nebraska a son Vance L Davis of Phoenix three grandchildren and several siblings. Burial in Paris city cemetery.

Rich Family Reunion to Be Held in Paris

The Charles C Rich Family association holds its annual Rich reunion with the Idaho Centennial in Paris. Events begin Friday evening August 9 with registration at 6 p.m. and program at 8 p.m. Saturday features tours, genealogy at 2 p.m., public meeting with officials, and a chuckwagon dinner followed by dancing at the Pavilion.
