Sheriff Apprehends Gas Thief at Bear Lake Resort

Sheriff Asa Athay caught Cyril Roberts in the act of siphoning gas from a parked car at a Bear Lake County lake resort. Roberts pleaded guilty to peti larceny, was fined 50 dollars, and sentenced to ten days in the county jail after a speedy trial.

Noted Geologist Plans Visit to Big Tree

Dr William Peterson a noted geologist and director of the extension service at Utahs Agricultural College in Logan plans a visit to Bloomington canyon to inspect the Engle Mann spruce tree over 2000 years old. He considers the tree the largest he has seen and will speak on its life and nature to interested citizens.

Party Climb to Paris Peak From Bloomington Canyon

A party including Pres. and Mrs. Roy A. Welker and several others climbed Paris Peak from Bloomington Canyon last Monday. The peak stands about 9,611 feet and the ascent took three hours with dinner served atop. View from the summit encompassed Bear Lake valley Gentile valley and Franklin county.

Richards Baby Drowns in Utah Irrigation Ditch

Keith Richards two year old son of Mr and Mrs C R Richards of Morgan Utah drowned in a two foot irrigation ditch around 11 a m Tuesday. A search found the body a short distance downstream the child had been dead about fifteen minutes when found. He fell head first into the water and strangled before he could call out. Funeral services are to be held in Morgan and the body will be shipped to Paris for burial.

Open Sage Hen Season Approved for Seven Idaho Counties

Sportsmen from seven southeastern Idaho counties meet in Pocatello and approve a four day open sage hen season for Bannock Bear Lake Bingham Power Caribou Oneida and Franklin counties. The season runs August 20 to 23 with extra wardens to enforce rules amid dry conditions driving birds to water sources.

Forest Service Repairs Mountain Telephone Line

The Meadowview forest station to Soda Springs line through Hightmile canyon is repaired this week by the forest service. Crews reinforce poles and lay new stubs to restore over nineteen miles of line. The system interconnects with the Eightmile station and is serviced from Soda Springs exchange.

Calcite Deposits Found at Cleveland Idaho

Calcite a mineral used as grit for poultry has been found in large quantities at Cleveland Idaho. Willard Larsen reports professors from the University of California and the University of Illinois have examined the field and say the calcite is high grade. Joe Jones of Old Paris Dies in Utah at 75

Joseph Jones a former passenger conductor for the Utah Northern and later chief special agent of the Oregon Short Line railroad in Salt Lake died at his residence 1500 Cleveland avenue after age related infirmities. Born in Neath Wales July 26 1858 he moved to Utah in 1866 and once lived in Paris. He served as Bear Lake county sheriff and retired in 1926 at age 70. Survived by widow Emily Anderson Jones 11 children 17 grandchildren and one great grandchild and a sister Miss Rose Jones New York City.
