The Idaho agricultural report notes a 30 percent income drop over two years due to curtailment and price fluctuations. It cites improved activity in clothing, shipments, and building as possible signs of recovery, with dairy and hog trends also discussed amid drought and wheat declines.
Reclamation Bureau opens bids to clear dead timber from Jackson Lake shores at the Minidoka project. An appropriation of 100000 funds contracts for two of the three schedules. Schedule one bids range 84 to 250 per acre with Fullen Construction of Gering Nebraska the low bidder at 84 per acre for about 700 acres. Schedule two low bid is Janovich & Co of Gleln Wash at 32000. Schedule three unlikely to be awarded per E B Darlington. Contracts to be let soon and work to start as water levels fall.
Seven year old Red Palmer of Bloomington was thrown from a racing horse this morning while with a playmate. He broke his right arm at the wrist, was brought to Paris for treatment, and the arm was set and placed in a plaster cast.
Auto bumper signs promote the Bear Lake County Fair in Montpelier set for September 24 25 and 26. County cars along the highway display the posters and more signs are available at the county agent's office.
Justice Alfred A. Budge of the Idaho supreme court and his wife and daughter Belva are spending a summer vacation here and left yesterday for a few days visit at Salt Lake. Budge attended a Bear Lake State Bank directors meeting Monday, where he serves as stockholder and officer.
Witnesses describe a giant powder blast at Worm Creek Canyon on Wednesday night. A 350 foot cross cut tufinel bore through solid dirt where 6 tons of Dupont giant powder were planted, lifting rock about eight feet before settling. Contractor Burns said crushing and loading equipment would be installed and graveling would start immediately. The dirt is white and will make a pretty road when mixed with oil for durability.
Engineers from Utah Power & Light Co and the U S Bureau of Fisheries inspected the Bear Lake reservoir at the north shore. The group evaluated fish screens and the fish ladder and planned further study with Fred J. Foster. Immediate steps to prevent fish waste were anticipated.
Information notes a Bear Lake stake Relief Society convention in Paris at the tabernacle on Sunday August 23. General board members will attend. The 10 a.m. session targets officers and teachers. A public meeting runs 1 p.m. to 2 30. The Union meeting starts 2 30 p.m. as usual. The high council meets at 12 p.m. instead of 12 30.
Wesley Windley suffered a painful foot injury when his foot was caught between cog gears on a dredge at Bear Lake Camp Lifton on Monday evening during maintenance. He was working on the dredge when the accident occurred.
A San Francisco division telegram reports thirty Bonner county families wiped out by recent forest fires at Priest River with loss of homes stock and farm equipment and severe exposure injuries. It requests $15 000 relief fund with $2 000 initial appropriation and urges voluntary contributions mailed to American Red Cross Sand Point Idaho.
County commissioners John J. Peterson of Ovid William J. Hinmter of Montpelier and Landon R. Pumire of St. Charles met at the county building for the regular monthly session. They reviewed and approved bills and related routine items in a standard meeting.

Secretary of State Fred E. Lukens declined charges that he bought gasoline tax exempt for state vehicles. He blamed unfamiliarity and political motives, promising to settle any legitimate claims with the motor equipment division after returning from North Idaho. Karl Evans of public accounts charged that about twenty state officials owed for repairs and fuel.
Miss Nadia Hoge daughter of Mr and Mrs W Smith Hoge weds Don Johnson son of Mr and Mrs L W Johnson in Utah at the start of the week. Both are well regarded in this city and receive best wishes for a happy and prosperous married life from their community.
Southern Idaho editors and families will gather at Easley Hot Springs near Hailey on Saturday August 22 for a Hailey Times event. A business session will be held and extensive entertainment plans have been made for the affair.
Postmaster H L Spencer says parcel post limits have risen allowing seventy pound packages to be sent anywhere in the United States. The rate to New York City remains 8.41 dollars and the size limit rises from 84 to 100 inches in combined measurement, enabling bulkier shipments.
Legionnaires of Bear Lake Post No 84 and Womens Auxiliary enjoyed a picnic and swim at Bear Lake Hot Springs Monday night. Over thirty attended from Garden City Fish Haven and St Charles.
Bear Lake Grain GrowersInc holds meeting August 5 at Montpelier city hall to adopt a new operation plan. Farmers National Grain Corporation will lease and operate country elevators and warehouses, letting members deliver grain to a national facility for cash sales, storage, loans, or pooling. Local units remain to support education and originations.
Fielding High announces its fall opening on Monday September 14 with registration starting that day and instruction beginning the next morning. The first semester ends January 22 and the second begins January 25. New faculty members Emeline Sirrine and Norman Christenson replace Rhoda Evans and J. Edward Davis.
