Curious Savage Play Set For May 2 At FHS

The FHS Thespian Society announces a school play Curious Savage to be staged May 2 in the high school gym. Directed by Nikki Monson the cast includes May played by Anita Haicup and John Thomas played by Thomas. The plot centers on Mrs Savage who refuses to reveal the location of 10 million dollars in her late husband’s estate.

Teen-age Gold and Green Ball Draws Large Crowd

About 150 Scouts Bee Hive girls leaders and parents attended the Teen-Age Gold and Green Ball last Friday evening. A fine floor show during intermission and several parent child dances were featured. Leaders thank the participants for making it one of the year's outstanding events and for their good conduct.

Joan Pugmire daughter of Preston and Mrs Pugmire Cokeville Wyoming and Max Eborn son of Willard Eborn Paris were joined in marriage Friday April 20 at the Logan Temple. Hyrum Bell performed the double ring ceremony. The couple planned a short Utah honeymoon.

Shower honors Mr. and Mrs Curtis Austin at Liberty-Saron

A Saturday evening shower for Curtis and Mrs Austin featured two vocal duets, solos, readings, and jokes. About 75 guests attended with gifts and refreshments. Out of town visitors included numerous relatives from Pocatello Ogden Garden City and Burley. A surprise party for Sherman Bartschi occurred midweek with 17 attendees.

Volunteer Fire Dept Public Meeting Aims to Organize Paris

A public meeting is set for Thursday evening April 26 at City Hall to plan forming a volunteer fire department for the City of Paris. A Paris Lions Club committee will work with the City Council to start the effort and gain interest for the benefit of property owners. The meeting is scheduled for 7 30 o clock.

Bride-to-be Honored at Trousseau Tea April 20

Mrs Maurice Beck of Ovid hosted a trousseau tea on April 20 for her daughter Arlene. Beverly Weston and Anita Beck provided music. Darlene Weston handled gifts. Inez Phelps and June Weston showed the trousseau room. Ozella Beck took moving pictures. Delores Weston and Mary Lynn Beck served guests with Ozella Beck in the kitchen. About ninety friends and relatives attended.

A group of friends enjoyed a lawn party at the Bob Kerns home Saturday evening. Lyle Gertsch of Blackfoot spent the weekend with his parents, Mr and Mrs Smith Gertsch. Mr and Mrs Bobbie Dean Wilcox and family are visiting this week at the Elmer Wilcox home. Mr and Mrs Lindon Grandy and sons of Ogden visited recently at the Henry Grandy home. Mr and Mrs Ray Johnson and two sons of Ovid visited Sunday at the George Parker home. Mr and Mrs Owen Shepherd spent Sunday evening at the Ira Peterson home in Montpelier. Miss Gwen Collings of Rexburg spent the weekend with her parents, Mr and Mrs Joseph Collings. Mr and Mrs John F Davis of Orem Utah spent three days the past week at the Leon J Taylor home. Mrs Ivan Beck accompanied Mrs Frank Jensen of Garden City to Evanston Thursday to spend the day with Mrs Henry Shirley. Glen Ward accompanied by Hol Passey left Friday for the east where they will drive home and a new truck for Mr Ward.

New Selective Service Rules Change Calls Induction Order

A revised Selective Service regulation outlines a new order for drafting registrants. Priority starts with delinquents aged 19, then volunteers under 26, followed by non-fathers 19 to 26 and fathers 19 to 26, then men over 26 with extended liability, and finally registrants aged 18 years and six months to 19. Idaho officials say current quotas can be met from the non-father group indefinitely.

Bear Lake 89ers Plan Erection of Highway Sign

The Bear Lake Basin 89ers Club met at the Hotel Burgoyne in Montpelier with about fifty attendees to plan a highway sign near the Ovid junction directing traffic through Bear Lake Valley on highway 89. A committee led by Ellis Barnett was named to raise funds from local businesses and coordinate the project with Highway 89 International Association officials present.

Heidi a 14 month old from a Swiss nursery home joins the Joseph A Barfuss family in Midvale Utah. Adoption negotiations began about 16 months ago when Mrs Barfuss brother George DeVon Barton was on a mission in Switzerland. The Barfuss have another child Larry and Utah law restricts adoption to homes without existing children.
