Paris Red Cross Garments Reach Philippine Civilians

A Paris Chapter of the American Red Cross sent clothing to the Philippines where Major General Basilio J. Valdes praised the volunteers. The Red Cross reports 60 tons distributed around Manila with 684 711 pieces and 315 600 hospital garments requisitioned for early delivery.

Former Bear Lake Man Receives Meritous Citation

First Lt Wayne E Peterson of Boise son of Mr and Mrs J S Peterson former Bear Lake residents receives the Presidential Unit Citation for four days of combat during the German counteroffensive near Monschau Eupen Leige road Hafen Germany. His battalion held a 6000 yard front, repelled assaults and killed many Germans while inflicting heavy losses. He also earned the Bronze Star and Combat Infantryman badge for actions in the same area. He previously served as Bear Lake County Auditor and now leads the Miscellaneous Tax Division in the Internal Revenue Service with duties in Boise.

Dingle Boy Sergeant Promoted After Industrial Raider Missions

Ross D. Thurber, 19, of Dingle Idaho, son of Mr and Mrs J E Thurber, promoted to sergeant and serving as a gunner on a 15th AAF Liberator. He has flown over 20 missions against German targets in northern Italy Austria and Germany since December and earned the Air Medal.

Cancer Control Month Drives Local Fund Drive

April is cancer control month and county and state residents are urged to cooperate with committees to help control the disease. Pamphlets are being sent to every home in Paris and readers are urged to study them. A tag day will be held on a date to be announced to raise funds for cancer control in the city and state.

Farm Bureau Federation Meeting Set for April 25

Bear Lake county farmers and families are invited to a Farm Bureau Federation meeting at Montpelier City Hall on Wednesday April 25 at 8 p m. Frank Shelby executive secretary of the Utah Farm Bureau will speak with Newell Dayley Idaho Farm Bureau president and secretary also scheduled. The American Farm Bureau Federation has 830000 farm family members nationally. Idaho has over 1000 members and all southeastern counties are organized. An invitation to learn what the federation has done and plans for the future.

Former Parisman Bishop Retires After Twenty Years Service

John Collings, longtime bishop of Matthews ward in Southern California, retires after twenty years of leadership. Gordon Crandall succeeds him as bishop, with Iverson praising Collings in a Sunday gathering. Collings supervised major church projects including the 1943 chapel dedication and ward facilities expansion. He was born in Paris Idaho and moved to California in 1923 with his family.

Idaho pilot joins bold A-26 strafing in Germany

2nd Lt Lynn G Sleight of Burley Idaho piloted an A-26 Invader on a low level strafing attack in western Germany. The operation, part of a combined bombing strafing effort, disrupted Germany's transport network and affected supplies to western front forces. Sleight had flown seven missions with the 408th Bombardment Group before joining service. his prior work included heat treating at Remington Arms in Denver.
