F F A Boys Entertain Fathers at Annual Banquet

The Fielding FFA held its third annual Fathers and Sons banquet at Fielding High School with 101 attendees. Meals by Home Economics directed by Mrs Daphine Bonham included tomato juice cocktail jello salad roast beef and sides. Speakers included Kay Allred Ezra Budge Mayor Van Ness Wallentine and Earl C Bonham with a closing ceremony and musical numbers.

Fielding High Student Earns State Farmer Degree

Ezra Budge of the Fielding High School Future Farmers of America won the State Farmer degree at the 14th Idaho FFA convention in Twin Falls March 29 30 31. He supervised six beef cattle one dairy cow and four head of swine in three years of project work and serves as Chapter Treasurer Southeastern Idaho District Secretary and chairman of the FFA Scholarship committee.

Major Vernon Budge Seeks Return to Paris from Fort Bliss

Major Vernon M Budge, stationed at Fort Bliss Texas, writes that after years on the Commanding General's Staff at the Antiaircraft Artillery Training Center he helped close the center on March 1 and now serves in the Tactics Department. He notes repeated attempts to obtain overseas duty were blocked by medical vision issues and requests relief from active duty to return to Bear Lake.

Missing Soldier Now Prisoner of War in Germany

First Sergeant Lloyd Passey reported missing in action December 16 is confirmed as a German prisoner of war. A card from a prison camp in Germany, dated January 21, says he is well and getting along. Passey departed overseas duty in late October 1944 and was captured on the first day of the German counter attack into Belgium.

Cultural Arts Festival by M I A April 14 at Paris Tabernacle

The Mutual Improvement Association Bear Lake Stake sponsors a Cultural Arts Festival to close the winter Mutual course. It will be at the Paris Tabernacle Saturday evening April 14 at 8 30. Local Red Cross War Fund Drive Sets Record in Paris Chapter

In the Roer valley blitz the 311th Timberwolf Regiment climbs mountains to seize Heimbach after house to house fighting. Pfc John Grimmett of Paris Idaho led Doughfeet down the hill, with Nazi defenders and civilians taken prisoner including ten women. Staff Sergeant Cecil Kieffer of Altura Minnesota won praise for single handedly clearing a machine gun nest.
