The City Council proclaims Saturday April 23 as Clean-up day for the City of Paris. Rubbish placed in containers along the roadside will be picked up and hauled away free of charge. Residents urged to participate and use the city haul-away services on this day.
Soil Conservationist George D. Clyde of the Soil Conservation Service urged Bear Lake Valley farmers to adopt border irrigation to improve yield and soil health. He cautioned against excessive irrigation that harms soil and forage in hay meadows and noted the method’s success elsewhere. Readiness, careful land prep and level strips are essential. District staff and local growers, including J. Rodney Ream and the Quayle brothers, prepared about 165 acres at Dingle using carry-all leveling and leveler equipment.
The Bear Lake Rangers held their regular meeting in St. Charles with Vice President Ben Cleveland presiding. The second annual Horse Show is scheduled for Saturday June 18, aiming for a bigger event, with a membership deadline extended to April 23. The club’s first ride of the year is planned for April 27 to the Hot Springs.
Mr. and Mrs. Glen Grimmett and children drove to Pocatello Sunday. Mrs. Grimmett and Pamela stay for a week with Mrs. Rada Buxton. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Spencer depart for Salt Lake and a six week California visit. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hulme moved into the Hoge property vacated by the Shepherds. Dennis Tueller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Palmer Tueller, had an appendectomy at Bear Lake hospital Saturday.

Three Fielding FFA boys attended the Idaho State Future Farmers of America convention in Boise. Gene Findlay was elected Idaho State FFA Secretary. Edward Wren, winner of the Southeastern Idaho FFA District Public Speaking contest, competed in the state contest during the convention and placed fourth.
The Paria Lions club contributed 380 to help the American Legion Auxiliary send a junior girl to Girls State, covering half of the total expense. Girls State will be held at Moscow from June 13 to 18. Dorothy Tueller hosted her bridge club last week with Mrs. Tunks taking high score. Guests included Inez Tunks, Audrey Monson, Bertha Hoge, Ethel Jensen, Orlean Innes, Lucille Crawford and Emma Shepherd.
Arthur W. Hart 79 of Salt Lake City died last Thursday at home. Born October 16, 1869 in Bloomington Idaho he studied in Bear Lake County and at Fielding Academy Paris Brigham Young College Logan and the University of Deseret He practiced law in Preston 49 years retiring in 1947 then moved to Salt Lake City Survived by Evadyna Hart and Ada Hart and 12 sons 9 daughters and many grandchildren Funeral was in Preston with burial there.
Scott Ward Arden Bunderson and Thomas Painter spent last Wednesday and Thursday in Salt Lake City on business. Archie Bee and wife traveled Tuesday to Salt Lake where Mr Bee underwent throat surgery at St Marks Hospital. Weldon Payne of Blackfoot visited his parents. Home Arts Club hosted by Ruth Parker with Cleone Payne Margaret Painter Thelma Bunderson Hilma Bateman Cérelda Thornock Vera Haddock LaRue Piggott and Joyce Madsen among attendees. The party in the Amusement hall drew fifty nine people for bingo and activities.
The Bear Lake Stake Mutuals present a music show at 8 p.m. in the Stake Tabernacle followed by a dance festival at the pavilion featuring numbers from Bloomington Carnetaolo Fish Haven Garden City Paris 2nd Ovid Liberty St Charles Paris 1st Laketown and related wards under the direction of Raymond Webb Floyd and Twila Lewis.
The Aaronic Priesthood of the Bear Lake Stake under Ray Rich sponsors a Soft Ball league for Deacons. Two divisions will play to decide a two team playoff at Outing Day on July 2. Games begin Saturday April 23 with Bloomington-Open at St Charles and other matchups listed.

Marvin Aullman of Thayne Wyoming was arrested April 4 on the Blackfoot river headwaters near Soda Springs for trapping without a license. He flew into the area using an airplane and faces fines and jail time. three more charges await. Beaver pelts and other furs were cited as profitable targets.
The Bear Lake Stake Relief Society presents its Singing Mothers In a Sacred Cantata Eastertide by Daniel Protheroe on Sunday April 17 at 8 p.m. in the Bear Lake Stake Tabernacle. The 65 voice chorus is directed by Ruby Bolton with Janet Grimmett organist.
The Bear Lake Cultural Arts Association closes its season with a concert on April 23 at 8 p m in the tabernacle. Featured artists include Florence S Allen pianist Ione Duncan contralto and Dorothy Kimball Keddington soprano a Tabernacle choir member and noted opera and oratorio soloist. The program details will be announced next week.
Local residents and families from Woods Cross Logan and Boise took weekend trips or short visits. Entries include trips to Paris Idaho Falls Boise and attendance at a Cattlemen's convention with notable individuals like Mayor Van Ness Vallen tine and Clarence Rich.
The Melding Chapter of Future Farmers of America hosts its seventh annual Father and Sons banquet Thursday April 14 at 8 p.m. in the High school with a special program. Home Making club led by Darleen Booth will prepare and serve the meal. Bishop and Mrs Arlin Pugmire of St Charles welcome a 9½ pound boy born April 10 at the DS hospital in Logan.
George Eugene Pope 86 died last Thursday at his Salt Lake City home. Born April 25 1862 in Farmington Utah he lived in Bear Lake valley Ashley Garden City Blackfoot and Salt Lake City. Funeral services were held in Salt Lake City and he was buried in Garden City Tuesday.
Community notes record several local visits and travel. Stucki underwent surgery in Salt Lake City on Friday. Others include Logan visitors, hospital releases, and various residents visiting relatives in Heber, Ogden, Montpelier, Pocatello, Boise, Paria, Enterprise, and Woods Cross. A statewide farm conservation contest was announced at the Bear Lake Soil Conservation District annual program. Norman A. Berg of Pocatello, Idaho Junior Chamber of Commerce state chairman, said entries are open to any Idaho farmer or rancher. Forty four county winners advance to a divisional contest with six divisions. the state winner will be named by November 1. First prize is an all expense trip by private plane to the eastern United States as a guest of J R Simplot. The Simplot Fertilizer Company of Pocatello sponsors the state award.
William Bischoff died Friday at his Bern home after a life in farming and church work. Born in Switzerland July 5 1868 he moved to Bern at age seven and later lived in Paris. He served as High Priest in the Montpelier Stake. Survived by children Joseph Peterson Ovid Louise Minig Noonan LeRoy Bischoff Paris Mrs Wm Ross and Richard Bischoff Bloomington and a great grandchild. Funeral Monday 11 a.m. Bern ward chapel with Paris cemetery interment.
