Bear Lake County commissioners on a majority vote named Ben Johnson of Preston as County Prosecuting Attorney. Johnson, a practicing attorney, will serve temporarily. Office hours are 10 a.m. to 12 noon and 2 to 4 p.m. five days a week in Montpelier. Mrs. Ven Munk remains secretary. Gass, who resigned to practice in Boise, had held the post for several years.

Blue Heron Causes Power Outage Across Bear Lake Valley
A blue crane reportedly flew into power lines late Wednesday, snapping one wire and causing another to sag across a third, cutting electricity from Montpelier to the valley end. The outage lasted 2 hours 23 minutes from 10:48 p.m. to 1:11 a.m. AP and L crews found a large bird near the break, groggy, then it flew away.

Final concert of season at Bear Lake stakes temple
The last concert of the current season will be Friday April 21 at 8:00 p.m. at the Bear Lake Stake Tabernacle featuring the New York Sextet with bass baritone Edmond Karlsrud. Karlsrud is a leading recitalist who has appeared on major networks and with orchestras nationwide. Charles Touchet, the group's musical director, provided special arrangements.
