Bear Lake refuge name change halted by county meeting

Bear Lake County officials scheduled a 8:00 p m meeting at Montpelier City Hall to discuss dropping the Bannock name for the Bear Lake National Wildlife Refuge. The meeting aims to persuade Van den Akker to name the refuge Bear Lake, with final recommendation to the federal Bureau.

Volkswagen in Liberty Creek after Route 36 crash

Sharyn Dong of Ovid drove a Cobb vehicle and Beverly Christensen of Ovid in separate cars on State Highway 36 when Christensen slowed. The Cobb car struck Christensen’s, sending it across the road into a borrow pit and the Volkswagen into Liberty Creek. Gary and Kristensen family occupants were uninjured with about 1500 dollars in damages. several others were taken to a local hospital for observation. Captain E McKay Willis completed a four week logistics course at Wright Patterson AFB Ohio.

Liberty Woman Wins Kodak Instamatic and Projector

Mrs Yvonne Derricott of Liberty won a Kodak Instamatic movie camera and a movie projector at the Rainbow Rod and Gun Club annual dance last Friday evening. Rep Max Haddock received $100 in gift certificates. Though the crowd was smaller than prior years participation remained good, said Ralph Stephens representing the club.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for Chauncy Wilkes who died Thursday at Bear Lake Memorial Hospital from a heart ailment. He was born February 27, 1895 in St. Charles to William and Jac.

Fielding High names co Valedictorian seniors Beck and Olsen

Mardene Beck of Ovid is named co valedictorian at Fielding High School alongside Craig Olsen of Ovid. Beck active in Future Homemakers of America and editor of The Searchlight, plans to attend Brigham Young University with a $400 scholarship. Olsen, also of Ovid, is a multi activity student with extensive music, LDS church involvement, and a $400 BYU scholarship plus a $400 Utah State scholarship pursuit.

Pocatello students sweep ratings at regional music fest

Fielding High School performers earned nine superior ratings 16 excellent and one good at the Passing Bitar District Music Festival in Pocatello last Friday and Saturday The superior entries including band chorus and various solos quartets and sextets will advance to the Regional Music Festival in Burley on April 28 and 29 Details to follow in The Post.
