Laketown Girl and Wellsville Boy Wed in Logan Temple

Miss Sondra Le Johnson became the bride of Edward C. Stuart Friday in the Logan LDS Temple. The pair hosted a breakfast at the Bluebird Cafe in Logan and a reception at the North Rich Auditorium in Laketown. After an open house in Wellsville, the gown featured chantilly lace and silk taffeta with a chapel train.

Bennington visitors and Stevens family aid Easter visit

Mrs. G. E. Hulme of Bountiful and Mrs. Silas Wright of Bennington joined Mrs. Inez Hall of Bennington for a brief Easter Sunday visit at the Rayford Stevens home. Rayford Stevens cared for two small Stevens children while Paul Stevens of Soda Springs welcomed a baby boy with his wife.

David Matthews Fourth in State 4 H Dairy Contest

David Matthews of Paris placed fourth in the state Dairy 4 H contest earning $20. He led county records in cow production livestock and dairy projects and shared a 4 H story of his work. He has four years in 4 H and earlier won a 25 scholarship to Club Congress in 1960. Other state winners included Marilyn Bolick Jerry Keykendall and Javis Johnson.

Bloomington Navy Man Completes Radar Course

Tony C. Panter aviation electronics technician airman USN son of Mrs. Richard Bee Bloomington graduated March 10 from the Aviation Electronics Technician School radar course at Naval Air Technical Training Center Memphis Tennessee. Eight weeks of radar systems radar altimeters test equipment and synchro servo systems were taught with prerequisites including Aviation Familiarizations School and Avionics Fundamentals School. Mr and Mrs Lloyd Ivie of Salt Lake City visited over Easter with Mr and Mrs Orlo Ivie.

Fielding FFA Boys Attend Convention

Fifteen Fielding FFA boys with Mr. Stephens and Montpelier Chapter members attended the thirtieth annual Idaho FFA convention in Caldwell March 30 to April 1. Blackfoot won the Parliamentary Procedure contest. Wayne Wright Castleford captured Public Speaking. Jaren Pugmire earned State Farmer and was named District Star Farmer. Fielding scrapbook earned Bronze emblem.

Old Folks Party Draws Large Crowd in Paris

The Parle Old Folks party at Paris chapel on Friday March 31 drew a 107 person supper crowd. Mary Lee Grandy performed accordion selections. gifts went to the oldest Paris residents Walter Lewis 88 and Julia Passey 87 with other octogenarians honored. A play Tulip Time in Holland directed by Weyn Bird featured local cast and out of town guests from Logan Montpelier and Magna Utah attended.

Fish Haven Ward Primary Conference Recalls Weekend Events

Fish Haven Ward Primary held its annual conference with a full program led by President Carol Howell. Ed die Izatt gave the opening prayer, followed by a song. The program included a play featuring Naomi Howell Eddie Izatt and Lisa Lotata Howell and multiple group performances with songs and Gospel lessons. Visitors included Milford Loveland, Glen Cox, J L Cottle, Lun ean Campbell, and several other local families.

Idaho Feed Grain Law Changes For 1961

New legislation affects Idaho corn and grain sorghum growers in 1961. Only those who grew corn or grain sorghum in 1959 and 1960 must comply to receive price supports for 1961 crops. Local ASO offices collect 1959 and 1960 acreage and production data in designated counties.

Three Bear Lake Girls Attend Ohio Convention

Miss Cheryl Hansen Tamara Pugmire and Jeanette Passey Ricks College student nurses from Rexburg and Fielding graduates traveled by chartered bus to Cleveland Ohio for the National Student Nurses Convention. They will be away about ten days with Passey serving as Idaho State Student Nurses president and Hansen on the State Planning Committee. Bears Lake graduates expected in June.

Hirschi Addresses West Side Farm Bureau on Idaho Bills

Rep Frank W Hirschi spoke at Liberty for the West Side Farm Bureau meeting on March 31 reviewing Idaho Legislature actions. He supported a $10 head tax earmarked for building programs, discussed land board development for Bear Lake County, and rail overpass issues. Bloomington Male Quartet performed and refreshments followed.

Garden City Rites Join Local Couple

The marriage of Mary Irene Calder to Dallas Gilbert Athay was performed at the bride’s parents’ home in Garden City on April 1 by Pres. Van Ness Wallentie. Longtime Bear Lake resident Robert Schmid dies

Robert Schmid aged in his early eighties died at 7 00 p m Tuesday at his Bern home. An early Bear Lake Valley settler who ran a meat curing business in Bern, he will be laid to rest with funeral services Friday at 1 00 p m in the Montpelier Stake Tabernacle. Details were not available from family at this time.
