Infant Daughter of Mr and Mrs Karl Evans Succumbs
Carmel Evans infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Karl H Evans of California died on March 10 from complications of meningitis influenza. The baby, nearly six weeks old, had been ill a week and recovered briefly before worsening. Autopsy linked death to the prior illness and high fever that damaged nerves and affected the heart and lungs. Mrs Evans was formerly Miss Winone Shepherd of Paris.

Body of Parley H. Smith Found Near Garden City Utah
Funeral services were held in Fish Haven for Parley H. Smith whose body was found April 2 after more than two months missing. He was last seen January 22 near Garden City while walking toward Fish Haven. Sheriff Ben Weston aided examination of the well preserved corpse, believed to have died of a heart attack after possibly stumbling near the highway. Survived by two brothers, a sister in Ogden, and a son in California. The community offers deep sympathy.

April Tire Rationing for Farm Vehicles Less Than March
The Office of Price Administration says April tire rationing for small trucks and farm tractors will be higher than March but still below the peak in the year. April new end used passenger tires match March, while the passenger tube quota rises 7.2 percent. The War Food Administration urges farmers to avoid tractor conversions from steel to rubber tires unless hardships exist and suggests reconditioning old tires. Civilian highway tire crude rubber content drops 35 percent with more synthetic rubber per the Office of the Rubber Director to meet military needs.
