Funeral Thursday for Pvt Verlin Hayes Georgetown Native
Funeral services were held in Georgetown for Private Verlin Hayes son of Mrs Vera Hayes died March 31 at Camp Polk Louisiana from a gunshot wound. Service included singing by the choir and remarks by Major speakers. Hayes born November 11 1922 attended Georgetown schools and was a paratrooper trainee stationed at Fort Benning Camp Mackall and Camp Polk. Interment at Soda Springs Cemetery with American Legion honors.

Franklin County Man Fined on Government Loan Charges
Franklin County farmer Cyril M. Whittle was found guilty of selling property mortgaged to the Farm Security Administration. Federal Judge Chaig A. Clarke suspended a one year sentence and ordered a $1500 fine payable to the court or toward the mortgage on cattle and chickens sold in 1939 and 1940. Whittle, a former political candidate, had pleaded innocent as relatives and locals noted during the spring term week.
