Wayne Stock son of Mr and Mrs Owen Stock of Fish Haven sustained a bullet wound in his leg from a .22 rifle he had in a car seat while rabbits hunting south of Idem City. The gun discharged as he moved to exit the vehicle near Garden City and a bullet lodged above the knee. He was transported to Lake Memorial hospital in Pinelier where surgery was performed and he remained hospitalized through Monday.
Montpelier High School auditorium hosts an Idaho education town meeting on April 7 at 8 pm. Gov Smylie proposes local discussions with moderators from Bear Lake county and nearby towns. Organizers include state educators and parents groups aiming to gauge public opinion and feed into a governor’s conference later this month.
Senator Henry Dworshak urged a revival of voluntary science interest to counter Soviet compulsory programs. Dr. Alan Waterman of the NSF urged educational outreach to parents and students, noting American free-study outweighs force systems. Sputnik prompted wakefulness, but Waterman warned real cultural buy-in is needed.
A Saturday night testimonial in the Ovid ward chapel honored Wayne Johnson son of Ezra A Johnson of Ovid. He will depart on a two and a half year mission for the Church in the Samoan Islands. Speakers included Bishop Russel Sorenson Don Sorenson President L Burdette Pugmire Wayne Johnson and Mr Kunz. Max Haddock sang with Mrs Armatage accompanying and Wel don Johnson played a Hawaiian guitar.
Montpelier police and the sheriff investigated a theft at the Rich theater where criminals pried open a steel locker cabinet and took 809 dollars in folding money last Friday night. No silver was stolen and fingerprints were photographed as investigators pursue leads.
Fielding and Montpelier FFA members attended the Idaho state convention in Boise March 26 to 28. Dan Rich led the southeastern Idaho delegation in the parliamentary contest and Richard Ward earned the State Farmer award. Larry Wooten of Kimberley won State Star Farmer with 200 dollars. Paul Bennett of Preston received a wrist watch and 100 dollars. State officers elected included Ed Bryce of Meridian as president. Fielding attendees included Sterling Wallentine Vernon Parker Clifford Payne Grant Morgan Richard Ward Glade Hymas Dan Rich Glade Booth Craig Wallentine Dennis Parker and Rax Law with adviser Allen Stephens.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning for William Clark 86 a longtime St Charles resident since 1876 after a months illness. Born in 1878 in Bedford England he moved to the area as a child and became known as a farmer and gardener. Surviving are two daughters two brothers a sister six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He served 37 years as secretary of the St Charles Irrigation Company and was involved in mining in the St Charles canyon.
Dr Robert Burgoyne told Emerson PTA that most child deaths come from accidents rather than disease. Officers were elected and installed with Darwin Wallentine as president and Edith Bunn as first vice president. Nominating committee members were David Parker Velma Hymas and Norma Passey. A piano solo by Marilyn Lewis and outgoing president Worthy Beck praised the officers and committee.
The American Heritage Foundation will distribute new high fidelity recordings of The Star Spangled Banner to every Bear Lake County school next week. President John C. Cornelius said the discs aim to deepen appreciation of the anthem and the rights and responsibilities of American heritage for about 41 million students nationwide. Records arrived at the county school office and will be shared free as a public service.
Leon J. Taylor of Paris and Swan O. Arnell Jr. of Dingle, Utah Power and Light employees, to be honored at the 1958 safety award banquet at the Franklin County Courthouse in Preston next Tuesday night April 8. Both have over ten years in hazardous work without a lost-time accident.

Bear Lake County ASC invites farmers who sought 1958 acreage reserve but lacked funds to file a certificate of intent at the ASC office. If approved and funds exist, they may still participate. Certificates available at the county office must be filed by Friday April 18.
The Bear Lake Stake tabernacle will host the 6 general priesthood segment of the 128th annual LDS conference. On Saturday April 5 at 7 p.m the meeting will be transmitted by closed circuit lines and heard through the tabernacle loud speakers. Attendance is urged for Melchizedek and Aaronic priesthood members and a headcount will be telephoned to President McKay’s office by 7 30 p.m.
Camp Elizabeth Passey Daughters of Utah Pioneers held their monthly gathering at the Edna Shepherd home with 20 members present. Capt. Theressa Rich led the meeting while Mary Stucki presented John Grover's history and Capt. Rich delivered a lesson on Brigham Young and his families. Hosts Edna Shepherd Emma Shepherd Vinnie Price Lauriel Athay Juanita Smart and Edith Haddock served refreshments.
The Bear Lake Stake Dear To My Heart night occurred Tuesday March 25 at the Laketown ward chapel with representatives from each Ward. The program featured organ music prayers greetings songs tributes to mothers and Mia Maids guest speaker and a Blooming ton Mia Maids prayer games and refreshments for 102 mothers and daughters.
The Community Church in Montpelier will hold Easter services announced by Pastor G Eldred Kelley. Sunday school begins at 9 45 and morning worship at 11 with the usual Easter observance.
A three man delegation from Bear Lake county real property taxpayers urged the Montpelier Class A School District No. 33 board to verify voters in a recent bond election. The board will compare names on the voter list to county real property tax rolls to ensure compliance with Idaho law. A committee led by Judge E. W. Stucki and six supporters began checking at the county courthouse, setting aside 93 ballots for now.
Results for the Cache National Forest Grazing Advisory Board show representatives chosen by cattle permittees in the Logan Logan Ranger district and by sheep permittees for the Cache Utah central and other zones. A meeting to organize the new board is set for April eight at Cache National Forest offices in Logan.
The American Banker annual roll call shows Largilliere Co Bankers of Soda Springs gaining 421 places in rank in one year. A telegram to E W Largilliere from the American Banker reports this spectacular rise and notes it as the highest position in the bank's history.
