Marine sanctuary bid eyed for Lake Ontario shore area
A four county Lake Ontario shoreline region and Oswego seek National Marine Sanctuary designation. If approved, the 1,500 square mile area would protect shipwrecks and archaeological sites, boost tourism and jobs, and attract researchers. Neighboring Alpena, Michigan shows a similar designation spurring growth. The process may take years with public support encouraged via LakeOntarioNMS.com and Assemblyman Barclay's office.
