Cuomo and Christie press Obama for fair Hudson tunnel plan

New York Governor Cuomo and New Jersey Governor Christie urge President Obama to fund half of a new Hudson River rail tunnel with the Port Authority sharing the rest. The proposal seeks federal grants for a project valued at at least 14 billion dollars and aims to accelerate environmental and planning approvals to advance the stalled Northeast Corridor effort.

Kentucky trooper killed after suspect shot during chase

Kentucky State Police trooper Zach Ponder pursued 25 year old Joseph Thomas Johnson Shanks from a speeding stop. The suspect, driving with suspended license, fired at the cruiser during a pursuit reaching up to 115 mph. Ponder died at a hospital after being struck by gunfire. Johnson Shanks was found after a long manhunt near the initial stop. he drew a weapon and was shot by officers, dying later at a hospital. The investigation noted Johnson Shanks had prior run ins and the trooper’s death prompted a vigil by law enforcement and the public.
