NY attorney general asserts court protects abortion rights still
New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman says Supreme Court rulings protect abortion rights, arguing state late term abortion limits enacted before Roe v. Wade cannot diminish those protections. He forwarded the legal opinion to the state comptroller for audits of payments to health care providers. The state’s criminal law permits abortions up to 24 weeks or to save the mother's life, while Schneiderman says the Constitution protects late-term procedures to safeguard the woman’s health and when the fetus is not viable.

Sterling Stage drug arrests mark second consecutive year
Oswego County and state police on Thursday announced 13 people were charged with drug felonies after a weekend probe into the Sterling Stage festival in Hannibal. The crackdown followed a death from an alleged overdose at the Sept. 3 event and echoed last year’s FolkFest sting that nabbed 14. Investigators say the public safety effort, aided by organizers increasing security, aimed to curb illicit drug sales amid more than 1500 attendees. Police reported cash seized and warned further charges could follow as they continue patrols and enforcement.
