Destruction of the Ocean Wave On Lake Ontario

Maritime historian Richard Palmer profiles Lake Ontario shipwrecks and port history noting the recent blaze of the Ocean Wave. The steamer burned off the Ducks about 40 miles above Kingston after a furnace fire. Of 50 aboard, 22 saved. 28 feared lost. The Georgiana and other vessels aided, with Kingston becoming the final embarkation point for survivors.

Free Broadway concert by Sounds of Brass and New Horizons Chorus

A free public concert features the Sounds of Brass joining the New Horizons Chorus on September 8 at 7 p.m. at Minetto United Methodist Church. The program spans Broadway tunes from Porter, Rogers, Hammerstein and Weber with classics from Phantom of the Opera, Gypsy, Wildcats and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. The Sounds of Brass, led by Frank Bickel, and the 45 member New Horizons Chorus, directed by Mary Lou Bjorkman, perform across Oswego County and nearby areas. The church is accessible at 2433 County Route 8, Oswego, NY 13126.
