Homeless Students Gain Focus Under New Education Law
Leaders from the National Association of State Boards of Education and the National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth say rising student homelessness stems from the recession, opioid crisis, and better reporting. Teens like 18-year-old James Edwards and Tyren Jones describe how shelters, couch surfing, and transportation to keep them in school provided stability and hope for college, with provisions expanding access to early programs and credits for work already done.
