Last survivor of Little Big Horn visits Oswego
Iron Hail known as Dewey Beard, last survivor of the Battle of the Little Big Horn, visited Oswego in early August 1895 with Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show. The Oswego Daily Times recalls a parade, a fierce storm at the arena, panic among 12,000 spectators, and Cody calming the crowd by ordering Indians to yell and the band to play, with three injuries and later reflections from locals. Iron Tail’s memory of Oswego is noted, and Beard died in 1955.
