Sportsmanship book edits wide disciplinary lens
SUNY Oswego sociology professor Tim Delaney edits Sportsmanship: Multidisciplinary Perspectives with 26 authors from 20 disciplines and five countries. The 277 page volume, from McFarland, surveys how sportsmanship is defined and practiced across cultures, disciplines, and ages, with chapters on gender, golf, sports journalism, and cognition. Delaney hosts Sportsmanship Day events and notes parental and coaching behavior influence, stressing that society’s values and ethics are reflected in how sportsmanship is taught and demonstrated today.
