Hurd Scholarship Awards Total $50,000 to Phoenix Grads
Phoenix high school seniors Ryan Luke and Breanna Backus were named recipients of the Robert & Roberta Hurd Scholarship during the 2017 John C. Birdlebough High School commencement. Luke received 40000 dollars and Backus 10000 dollars from a nearly one million dollar bequest to aid top scholars with financial need and strong moral values. Wyatt Parker, a JCB graduate and inaugural recipient in 2015, spoke of the Hurds generosity and community impact. The awards require top 15 percent academic ranking and good standing, with four yearly installments conditioned on continued college enrollment.
