Deacon bested Eric Kingson and Steve Williams in the Democratic primary, setting up an November contest against incumbent Republican John Katko for New York's 24th Congressional District. Unofficial results show Deacon with 5,749 votes, Kingson 3,780, Williams 2,297, with 323 of 324 districts reported. Deacon, former district office director for Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, praised supporters after the result.
New York State Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney Republican and Conservative nominee will represent the 22nd District in November to replace retiring Representative Richard Hanna. Tenney, a three term legislator and attorney, led with 41 percent, defeating Steve Wells at 33 percent and a Binghamton educator, in a Tuesday primary.

Markee L. Cathcart of Phoenix received a three to nine year state prison term after pleading guilty to second degree manslaughter in the October 24 fatal stabbing of 23 year old Sean Leonard outside a Hannibal house party. Prosecutors noted Leonard was unarmed and the dispute centered on who would drive or the car’s value. Leonard’s family mourned the loss as Cathcart’s attorney cited self defense as unavailable.
