Port City Mayor Billy Barlow met Oswego Sunrise Rotary during his first 100 days in office. The club gathers Thursdays at 6 30 a m at the Oswego Tea Company with President Don Todd and president-elect Jim Cloonan pictured.
Oswego City School District approves a one year contract extension with CSEA representing about 250 non instructional staff. The agreement includes a pay freeze and was unanimously approved by the board with no public discussion. District officials did not release financial details.
Contractors will replace a 160 year old brick sewer main along West Utica Street over the next week after a section near West First Street collapsed. The emergency project, using heavy equipment, affects West Utica intersections and nearby businesses. DPW Commissioner Tom Kells urged drivers to detour and patrons to continue shopping at Pauls Big M, Napa Auto Parts, and PJ s Ice Cream. The plan extends six to seven more days as the city shifts from repair to full replacement between West First and West Second.
Construction on the Phillips Street Bridge over Tannery Creek in Fulton began after a state notice on May 31, with completion targeted by October 27, 2016. Officials say the three month project, replacing a structure last updated in 1978, aims to address a grade of 3.49 on the DOT deficiency scale.
