Doctors order fewer preventive services for Medicaid women
A Urban Institute study reviewed five office based preventive services across 2006 to 2010 using 12 444 privately insured visits and 1 519 Medicaid visits. It found Medicaid patients had lower rates for clinical breast exams and Pap tests with 12 and 9.5 percent respectively versus 20.5 and 16.5 percent for private insurance. Differences persisted after adjusting for age race and address though no clear quality gap emerged.
