Pre Civil War Brooklyn Atlantics card heads to auction
A circa 1860s Brooklyn Atlantics baseball card long kept in a family drawer and later a photo album is up for bid at Heritage Auctions Platinum Night Sports Auction in Chicago on July 30 during the 2015 National Sports Collectors Convention. The card features Archibald McMahon, an outfielder, and eight teammates in bib shirts, with two men in suits. Florence Sasso, of Great Barrington MA, says the card was kept in a Fanny Farmer candy box in a secret drawer and later filed in a McMahon folder after she learned more in genealogy classes.
