Sleep-deprived surgeons tied to no worse daytime outcomes
A New England Journal of Medicine study from Toronto analyzed 38,978 patients across 12 elective operations. It found no difference in 30 day mortality, readmissions, or complications for patients whose daytime surgeons had slept from midnight to 7 a.m. the prior night versus those whose surgeons did not.
