Page High School Delegates Named for Girls and Boys State

Delegates to Girl's State and Boys State were chosen by Page High School faculty. Rita McDonald will attend Girl's State, while Arthur Hall and Michael Woods were named as Boys State delegates. The American Legion Auxiliary funds most years, but this year asks for donations from groups to support the single Girl's State delegate. The Auxiliary credits past book sales for finances, and Legion Post No. 73 sponsors the Boys State delegates with prior Lions and Rotary sponsorships noted.

Fiesta and contest updates spark local activity

Fishing contest sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce continues with entry recorded at Western Auto. Boat launching contest offers a chance to be first from the new ramp. Rodeo Queen contest remains open and the board-growing contest proceeds. Diversion requests for 102000 acre feet of Colorado River water annually for athermal plant will be decided around April 15, said Utah state engineer Hubert C Lambert. Utilities plan a 500 million dollar Kaiparowits Plateau plant using lake water and Kaiparowits coal. Arizona Public Service, Southern California Edison, and San Diego Gas and Electric lead the project near Wahweap Creek by Lake Powell. Senator Frank Moss proposes carving 3700 acres from Glen Canyon Recreation Area to avoid conflict. National Park Service manages the area. Moss seeks boundaries that exclude the plant while preserving access to recreation sites. Water needs would come from Utah’s Colorado River share. power would mainly serve Arizona and California, with none to Utah.

Trophy Film Shown By Page Recreation Association

The Page Recreation Association sponsors a showing of Trophy an adventure suspense and humor wildlife film by Wildlife Film Co in the Page High School multi purpose room Monday evening April 19 at 730 P.M. Admission is 1.00 for adults and 0.50 for under 16. The film follows polar bear and antelope hunts with narration by Mel Hardman and features Scott Jarvie and Robert Harris as creators and hosts.
