Federal Food Administrator P. M. Harding orders all Mississippi gins to stop ginning at midnight September 19 for ten days to conserve food products. Lafayette County Gins will halt operation by midnight September 19 under law penalty.
Wallace W Shaw, 59, died Tuesday at his College Hill home after a brief illness. Funeral from his home Tuesday afternoon with interment at College Hill cemetery. Survived by wife, two daughters, and one son, including Mrs. Dr. Wilkin of Abbeville and Miss Bessie Shaw who teaches in Abbeville. son Robert Shaw a traveling salesman.
U S Fuel Administrator urged rest for cars on Sunday and citizens widely complied. Women organized pressure in several cities and flags were removed from violators. police questioned motorists intentions and papers criticized Sunday driving. Public opinion backed the request with letters pledging support.
The City of Oxford Mississippi enacts a water rate ordinance fixing a $1.50 monthly minimum for up to 3 000 gallons and 25 cents per 1000 gallons above that to 10 000 gallons plus 20 cents per 1000 for 10 000 to 100 000. Ordinance No 113 repealed and provision takes effect October 1 1918.
City of Oxford Mississippi enacts an electric light rate plan: one dollar monthly for up to seven kilowatts and fifteen cents per kilowatt for over seven. Repeals section of Ordinance 89 and any conflicting ordinances. takes effect October 1 1918. Passed September 16 1918 with all three members voting aye.
The United States will begin selling Liberty Bonds around six billion dollars worth on September twenty eighth. Louis Short a livestock buyer from Toccopola Miss was found near a Trenton Ky railroad track with his body and limbs severed. Coroner Bartlett and a jury theorize death occurred after he fell from a fast train or while attempting to board a non stopping train. He leaves a wife and three children. body shipped home for burial.
