Lafayette County Circuit Court Holds Short Fall Session
The Lafayette County circuit court convened for the September term of 1918. Judge Bates delivered a grand jury charge, the grand jury reported findings including 10 true bills after examining 40 witnesses, and the court disposed of numerous cases by trial and continuance. The bench adopted resolutions praising Judge Bates for his impartiality and courtesy upon his departure from the bench.

Public School Opens with Devotions and Full Chapel
The Public School opened Monday at 9 o'clock with a full chapel. About 400 pupils attended along with patrons. Rev. W. W. Woolard led devotional exercises and gave an address. Dr. C. Longest presented a Gettysburg picture donated by Mrs. Benn Price. A 38 star Service Flag honoring local graduates in service was unveiled by Prof. Donaldson, with two teachers collecting war names to complete a list.

Last Friday September 6 four cars carried 365 hogs weighing an average 184 pounds from Lafayette County. No 1 hogs, 210 pounds on average, sold near top prices in St Louis. Total net receipts reached 12116 dollars. Local interest grows as Oxford shipments rise from five cars in 1916 to 27 in 1918 with expected total of 40 by year end.
