Frank E. Lane former secretary of the interior under Wilson died suddenly in Rochester Minnesota after heart disease. His body was taken to Chicago with his brother George W. Lane and Mrs. Frank K. Lane and Mrs. Frank K. Lane Jr for private funeral and cremation.

It emphasizes advisory guidance, proper use of funds, and nonpartisan aims while noting commodity organizations may market products and procure necessary supplies. We thank friends churches school and Dr Bramlett and the nurses at his hospital for kindness shown during Mrs S D Roan's stay following her May 6 operation. We appreciate the service and treatment received from physicians nurses and our many friends.

The new city well cost about 800 dollars for complete equipment and drilling. A second nearby well cost roughly 3500 dollars with equipment no better than the new one. Superintendent Early says Oxford will not face water shortages this summer and the supply should serve two cities of Oxford’s size with good quality water.
Washington, May 16. Daniel Willard, president of the Baltimore and Ohio, urged a Senate committee that private railroad ownership cannot continue if costs exceed revenues after a fair return on capital. He said the current troubles mirror other industries. government war-time policy and maintenance issues helped, but private management should prevail. He defended higher freight rates and noted 40 percent of freight rolling stock was in bad order due to wartime maintenance cutbacks.
Ella Parker a crippled orphan once sheltered at Chunkey and ward of the Mississippi Children's Home Society has a hopeful future with her Fort Worth uncle J. S. Parker. The society notes the ongoing need for good homes for twelve girls ages 7 to 17 and four infant boys in Jackson Mississippi aided by its Receiving Home.
Coleman Hamilton of Memphis, nephew of the late J. R. McLarty, was buried at Mt. Zion on Sunday, dying of tuberculosis. Mr. Pat Rankin of the Hopewell community passed away last week at age 80, well known in the county. Mrs. Baker and Mrs. Cresswell were guests at Fair View. Miss Carmen Calloway has returned home after teaching in the Oklahoma mountains. Mr T J Smith reported a ready cabbage market during a city visit.
Washington reports the death of Edward Douglass White chief justice of the United States at 2 a m after an operation last Friday at a local hospital. He was 76 years old.
About 7000 prohibition enforcement agents across the country have been temporarily laid off due to shortage of funds to pay their salaries, announced at prohibition enforcement headquarters in Washington.
Mr. and Mrs. Esca Crowe thank Doctors Eugene Bramlett and Rowland and many friends for constant care and sympathy during the sickness and death of their darling baby Edward Jones.

May 24 at 10 00 A M offers commencement exercises with Baccalaureate by Dr Nathaniel Butler of Chicago awarding medals prizes and diplomas. Public invitation extended by Chancellor J N Powers.
