The university announced last Monday that no summer school will be held this year to allow building and repairs. Dr Christopher Longest said plans were in progress but improvements require access to all buildings. The crowded current session underlines the need for new facilities and ongoing construction.
A gathering of tentholders and friends at Oxford Camp Ground appoints committees to raise funds and organize volunteer work. Plans call for a post planting season cleanup, drainage, concrete and springs work, sanitary toilets, and fence repairs under supervision of Prof. A B McKay. Donations and participation are encouraged from all denominations to preserve the sacred, communal space.
The May 1921 list from Agricultural College Mississippi shows 118 graduates to receive bachelor of science degrees across School of Agriculture Mechanical Engineering Science Education Business and Industry and more. A second accompanying note from Bonnie McLarty of Memphis includes a Camp Ground Fund donation.
Dr A A Young and Dr C M Shipp conducted a rural-urban sanitary inspection in Oxford noting widespread inaction despite clean-up week. They found nine unclean private stables and several open back latrines violating state law, warning prosecutions and promising fly-breeding record-keeping.
State Health Board urges public cooperation to eradicate infectious diseases by cleaning barn yards stalls and lots to prevent fly breeding. Citizens are advised to install screens and buy wire to keep out flies and mosquitoes. Health officer A A Young offers free typhoid vaccination to applicants.
The Hawkins family expresses gratitude to Dr Culley and the Oxford Hospital staff for care during Lula Hawkins illness. They thank friends for kindness, sympathy, and tokens of love and wish blessings on the hospital and its workers. Mr and Mrs William Hawkins and Children.
At a mass meeting of trustees and patrons of Lafayette Springs Consolidated School E S Samuels was reelected superintendent and Mrs E S Samuels as first assistant. Three more teachers remain to be chosen. The couple just completed their second year and locals expect a banner next session.
The Christian Educational Movement will raise 33 million dollars during May 29 to June 5 for Methodist colleges in North Mississippi. Millsaps College in Jackson gets 805 thousand, Grenada College 350 thousand, with new dormitory gymnasium and enlarged departments planned.
Federal agents led by Ellis S. Chapman captured five stills within eight miles of Utica Mississippi in a half day raid. Police destroyed two copper outfits in Copiah county eight miles southeast of Utica and a still in Utica itself. Operators R D Travis Sr and Jr were charged. two moonshine outfits near Utica were shut down with suspects Dixie Dixon and Lester Yates charged. One still was brought to Jackson as evidence. hearings will be held in Jackson.
