Governor Demands Facts Before Special Insurance Session

Jackson Mississippi April 211 Gov Lee M Russell won t call a special session over the fire insurance crisis without written information from the Mississippi Association of Insurance Agents. A committee will report on lack of insurance in Mississippi names of property owners in need signatures authenticity and whether legislation would affect litigation against retired companies and assure return to business. The meeting drew 100+ business leaders and professionals. Mr H H Weir presented the petition on behalf of the citizens demanding a remedy. The governor insisted on concrete lists of those unable to secure reliable coverage and written stances on suits against corporations before considering any session.

Fraudulent highway promoter targets Kansas towns

In December a man named Waltez introduced himself as part of the Old Indian Trails Association to the Eagle editor and Commercial Club. He claimed to post a scenic road and collect memberships, with funds to remain in the Bank of Oxford until work began. Sheriff warnings followed as investigations revealed con artist schemes selling town concessions and demanding immediate payments. Waltez was sought by five counties, last seen in Norton, with arrests underway.

In Oberlin Kansas a suspected sham highway scheme called the International Old Indian Trails drew attention as promoter C. W. Valrez vanished and a sheriff telegram summoned his arrest.
