About 50 percent of the vote was polled in the state as Pat Harrison is nominated by a slim margin. Lafayette Pontotoc Newton Yalobusha and several other counties report votes. K Vardaman F Noel Harrisons majority stands at 41 664 to 33 111 with a 6 399 margin.
Vardaman supporters counted a strong showing in the first primary while Pat Harrison led in the Gulf-Lafayette area with 446 votes to Noel’s 76. Six hundred county voters did not vote, and a second primary is slated in three congressional districts with Rankin facing Candler in the First District.

Marion W Riley of Meridian announces candidacy for governor with Lee M Russell as the only other candidate so far.
