May beetles and pecan trees infestations and control
Entomology notes describe large brown Lachnosterna beetles, commonly May beetles or June bugs, feeding on pecan and other trees. Adults fly at dusk, hide by day, and light attracts them. Lifecycle spans 2-3 years with grubs damaging roots. control includes plowing, night collecting with lanterns, arsenate of lead or Paris green, and hogs rooting white grubs. The department requests specimens from Mississippi with tree source and collection date.
