Hillsdale Water Quality Project Protects Hillsdale Lake
A volunteer cooperative led by residents targets Hillsdale Lake watershed water quality to reduce sediment and phosphorus. Funded by EPA, KDHE, and local contributions, it spans four counties and serves over 30,000 drinking water residents and more than 1 million annual visitors. The team promotes best management practices, riparian areas, and urban runoff controls with K state Extension support. Water quality monitoring continues to track before and after impacts across agricultural and urban areas.
