City considers library levy hike and downtown grant
Ottawa city commissioners meet 7 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall to weigh a charter ordinance raising the library mill levy from six to 10 and review a Kansas Department of Commerce grant up to 750000 for downtown housing and development. The plan also calls for rehab of homes, apartments, a mental health center, and senior center, plus potential land purchases. Existing spending shifts cut other areas’ levies to offset the increase. Planning items include residential storage units, a recycling center, and rezoning 17.9 acres at 17th and Elm for smaller lots.
