Pet Care 101 Ethical pet ownership and shelter rules

Parents must supervise children and pets alike to prevent harm or loss. The B. Martin Peck Animal Shelter in Ottawa Franklin County houses stray or unwanted animals, mainly cats and dogs, with some rabbits and guinea pigs. Many arrive without IDs or vaccines and are not spayed or neutered. After three days, state law makes them the shelter’s property, guiding staff to act in the animals best interests, which can mean not returning a pet to its original owner.Owners should spay or neuter, vaccinate, attach identification, and secure their property to ease future reclaiming.
