Frances Dunn and Mary Lou Bové spoke on Avondale Stock Farm of 1900. Next meeting November 12 at Madge Calliham home with Ruth Keys as scheduled speaker. Oasis Club members share genealogy tips and elect 1995 officers. Thanksgiving lunch moved to November 15. Wal-Mart Super Center permit shines in Ottawa Franklin County
The Wal-Mart Super Center site east of 23rd and US-59 is prepped for a 178000 square foot building with a permit purchased last Wednesday. Construction aims for early May 1995 completion as Ottawa and Franklin County continue a brisk permit pace, with Ottawa issuing 24 single family permits and eight other permits through September totaling 195, 32 more than all of 1993. County records show 71 permits in 1994, 39 single family, and four single-family plus one mobile home in September.

Grandma Layton paintings on display in Albuquerque museum
A selection of works by Elizabeth Grandma Layton will be exhibited at a New Mexico museum during November in Albuquerque. Layton, a Wellsville native who began painting at 68 in 1977, was featured on the October cover of Prime Time. She died last year after a stroke and developed a contour drawing style learned at Ottawa University. GASES will sponsor two Layton programs taught by Don Lambert, former Ottawa Herald reporter and Layton friend.
